Pelikano Jr. cap cracked

The cap to my green Pelikano Jr. fountain pen developed cracks after only a few months use. Not just one crack, but lengthwise cracks all around it. I don't know if my Pelikano was defective, or with the use I put it to, any Pelikano would have cracked (just the cap, not the body). I kept it in a pocket in my daypack and carried it around everywhere. I probably took that cap on and off 10 times a week for the last 5 months. Therewere several pens in the same pocket, and none of them cracked, among them a Lamy Safari. I did on occasion use the pack as a pillow, with the pens still in the inner pocket. The pack could have fallen from the desk to the floor once or twice.

That seems like normal use to me, and some $3 gel pens and a cheap marker I had in the same pocket never had a problem. Other people may just stick their Pelikano in their desk and not use them much. What I suspect is, the plastic of the cap is slightly on the thin side, and with the use I put it to, any Pelikano's cap would have cracked. It is possible it was made from a batch of bad plastic.

I remember hearing once that some color plastics are stronger than other colors, because of the chemical properties of the dye used. I don't know if that is true, or what color is supposed to be better (I vaguely remember that red is better).

Mine gets carried around in the pocket of my cargos attached to a notepad using hair bands and is capped an uncapped regularly. Not a sign of a crack and those lines going up the inside of the cap should add to its strength surely.

They are designed for kids and certainly seem robust to me.

Mine is blue by the way in case that helps with your colour/strength research!
