Anyone ever dealt with Colorado Pen Direct?

I've ordered from CP Direct before. Great prices. Quick shipping. Really pleased with them. So I placed another order recently. Had a glitch in the order. One pen was unavailable, so a partial order was shipped. If I'd been contacted, I'd have cancelled, since the one item I REALLY wanted was the one that had become unavailable. Whatever. So I contact customer service to work out what to do...and got a rather nasty reply. Is this uncommon? I was taken by surprise and wondered if others had experienced anything similar?

Thanks for any insight or help. I'd like to continue ordering from them, but would hate to encounter this again! :(

Hi,

Hmm...who contacted you?

I used to buy from them, but I found that they were rather expensive.

First contact was Joe. Didn't get a response after two days of replying to his initial e-mail, so I sent an e-mail to the generic customer service e-mail address. The surprising/nasty response came from Bob. Don't know what provoked him, I just wondered why I hadn't heard back from Joe after two days.

I found their outlet prices to be very good, hadn't really shopped their regular priced pens...

Hi,

This is not to say that they are bad, but Bob does have a slight tendency to do that, so I wouldn't exactly be the most surprised.

The other reason why I don't buy from them anymore was the fact that I am now a pen dealer. There was a saying that you can learn to ride a horse by watching someone get on a horse and try to ride it, and after watching all the mistakes he made, you could get on, and with a little effort you could learn to ride. (Then there was a bunch of stuff I learned the hard way, from my own mistakes.)

Many of their products are actually selling at full retail or almost full retail, and this was a little of a disappointment for me. Their outlet prices are no doubt great though. :)

Usually when people ask here for seller recommendations, I have good things to say. Colorado Pen? Just the opposite. I do not go near those people. I recommend them to no one. Your current situation with your order is all I have ever gotten from them. Enough said.

Sounds like a store to avoid then. Thanks for the information guys.

I haven't bought anything from them, but an email response to an enquiry I made was unfriendly enough to discourage me from ever doing so in the future. Funny that, because I'd thought they sold pens.

Wow - I should have come here FIRST before ordering  You folks are such TERRIFIC enablers, that my current addiction is being fueled heavily by this forum. Never thought to ask for recommendations. I've been stumbling across various internet retailers and comparing prices on-line. Besides CP, I've ordered from PenCity, Swisher, ISellPens & MontgomeryPens. (This is getting expensive...but there's always "just one more pen"...). Any other retailers you can recommend for good customer service and reasonable prices?

Thanks!

I have found His Nibs.com, Akidea.com, Bertrams, Farneys, Fountain Pen Hospital, Pendemonium and Richard Bender (especially!!) to be wonderful.

I have never purchased from them, but I did call or email (I forget which) a few months ago, and the response was helpful and polite. This might not be what you want to hear, but it's true.

This thread prompted me to check them out. The one pen I recognized in their "sale" section was the Pelikan M400 in white tortoise. They are selling it for the "bargain" price of $209! :ltcapd:

Has Pam Braun been mentioned here on the good list? (oscarbraunpens.com)

I got ink and a converter from Colorado Pen once but that's it. No problems with the order so no experience with customer experience. Wasn't impressed with their pen selection.

Hi,

Pam's a full thumbs up for me and so is Swisher and Pendemonium. Just the top of their class!

I have bought from Pam and from Pen Gallery. I have asked both about many more pens than I have bought and they have both been very responsive to questions and the prices have been great too. I have no plans to buy further pens now, in theory at least!

A second recommendation for both Pear Tree Pens and ISellPens. Both are great with customers and top notch service. Highly recommend James' (Pear Tree Pens) ink sampling program. For the price, it can't be beat.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
