Most attractive ink bottle?

I have one of those same Pelikan "crooked" bottles with a 1970's label, and love the bottle The Black 4001 ink that came in it is still good, too. Great bottle in a useful shape. :)

My votes, in no particular order, are Visconti, those new Caran d'Ache, that seasonal MB that smells like cookies (or something... forget the gimmick, but a beautiful bottle), the similar-looking Pilot bottles, and the Pilot Hydrangea-type inks.

I recently bought a bottle of Diamine Emerald. The ink is OK, but I think the bottle is very sharp. Nothing fancy. Just simple, classic lines. I even like the cap. When the bottle is empty, I plan to refill it with a favorite ink (possibly my own mixture), and keep it on my desk.

Anyone else have a favorite ink bottle they like to display?

:)i really like them too. but visconti bottles and montblanc are really cool too

Regards

My two bits: Love the Diamine and Omas bottles on the desk top for most attractive. Like the look of the Caran D'Ache, but it needs to be deeper or larger or something.

You did not ask about functionality. However, functionality would suggest bottles mentioned before such as Lamy, Visconti (though I agree with the stability point, and yes the old Visconti inks did have a bakelite "shoe" to stabilize the bottle, though that bottle was larger than those currently used and the shoe often fell off once the ink dried out and cracked), the MB "shoe", the Waterman, and lastly the old Parker Skrip bottle with the internal side inkwell (as discussed in other threads).

The "Cathedral" bottle Gary posted is truly beautiful, my grandmother used to have them in windows to catch the light. Wish I had them now, they go for a lot on ebay and at bottle auctions. Definitely used for school of office where gallons of ink were used a day.

It'd be cool if someone somehow made bottles that had polyhedra inside them instead of the usual cube. At the same time, it would be good if there would be a point at the bottom so that most of the ink could be sucked up. How about an icosahedron inside a cube? If I did the math right (side is 3.439cm) , the diameter of a sphere that would encompass the icosahedron to have 3 fluid ounces would be around 6.541cm, so a cube with a side of this much, including glass thickness, would be good to go. Might as well make it 7 cm to be sure.

There'd be a lot of wasted glass, and I'm not sure how they'd even make such a thing, but it would be a sight to behold.

At least it'd be a really cool inkwell.

Like this picture, except it would be more like the sphere on the right, but in cube form, since the icosahedron on the left is tipped over.

Or maybe they could do other shapes like octahedra, tetrahedra, dodecahedra... then just throw in the standard cube and make it a Platonic set of inks.

I'm into functin = attractive, so:

1. Stipula Netto -- not the Calamo inks, but the whole filling system. Forget piddly little problems with getting your pen filled. I liked it enough that I wish I'd bought more of them during Bittner's sale.

2. Waterman bottles are also cool because they can be tipped when the quantity's low.

BirdValiant - Sounds like you need to be introduced to a glassblower. We'd all be the better for a "good to the last drop" ink bottle!!!

I really like the new Caran D'Ache ink bottles. They do not hold a lot of ink but they are a beauty to behold.

And you can almost hear them shouting: “I want to be on your writing desk!”

Really hard to tell from the pic, but how tall is this bottle? It's definitely my pick and probably way out of my range. Gorgeous!!!

First, the glass (not plastic) Visconti. Second, the Caran d'Ache glass bottle. Third, the J. Herbin glass bottle.

Funny you should say that, it is exactly what I heard from a bottle of Storm.

When I got it, I knew it was getting a nice inkwell.

Since the label is so gorgeous, is there some kind of clear coating I could apply to protect it against drips, which I know will happen the very first time I use it as an inkwell
