Most attractive ink bottle?

RayMan

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a bottle of Diamine Emerald. The ink is OK, but I think the bottle is very sharp. Nothing fancy. Just simple, classic lines. I even like the cap. When the bottle is empty, I plan to refill it with a favorite ink (possibly my own mixture), and keep it on my desk.

Anyone else have a favorite ink bottle they like to display?

Regards,

Ray

I like Diamine bottles too (and their ink.) I sometimes move my Noodlers ink into empty Diamine bottles. Noodler's gives you lots of ink but their bottles are challenging to fill from as they get low.

Have to be the Parker Penman bottle for me! Love the look and the very functional way that it allows you to get all the ink out of the bottle.

I assume we're talking about "off-the-shelf" ink bottles as opposed to inkwells?

If that's the case, I also like Diamine's bottles - they have a classic, vintage quality in its shape although the mouth is a bit too small, I think. I quite like how J Herbin's have a pen rest area on the bottle but my favourite right now is probably Sailor's bottles since the mouth is relatively bigger. I haven't tried many brands yet though.

Add my vote to Visconti -- the best combination of beauty and functionality.

I really like the new Caran D'Ache ink bottles. They do not hold a lot of ink but they are a beauty to behold.

Beauty! Thanks for the pic!

I agree with the Diamine (both old and New Century bottles) and Caran d'Ache choices.

A friend of mine showed me a very attractive Delta bottle that was art deco in style - Delta Israel? - that he received at a pen show a few years back. I tried searching but can't find it.

I have always thought that the Lamy bottle with the blotter paper dispenser was a neat idea as well - http://shop.peartreepens.com/product.sc?productId=176

Of the bottles sold with ink, my favorite is the Mont Blanc 50 ml.

I like the Diamines, especially with the mottled caps, and I

got Grand Canyon and Storm from Caran d'Ache partly

because even if I didn't like the ink, the little bottles would look

cool refilled with something else.

A couple other not mentioned yet are vintage Quink bottles.

The earliest is clear glass, Art Deco look, and narrow at the top,

and might be reminiscent of a Diamine bottle of today. One

of these I have still has usable vintage blue-black ink in it.

The later one is cobalt blue glass, diamond shaped, in a

diamond-shaped box (if you get it), and has a white

plastic cap. I thing it's from the 50s.

I don't have pictures, but you might be able to look at pictures

of these if you go to pendemonium.com and look through

the vintage ink section. (That's where I got my bottles.)

As far as old ink, it's supposed to be okay to use it if you

don't find "stuff-in-the-bottle" growing in it, and if the

color doesn't look like it's gone off. If it looks bad, you

toss the ink and clean out the inside of bottle with water,

carefully if you want to keep the label on the outside.

Lamy Blue is one of my favorite blues. True blue, and nicely saturated.

I like both the Lamy blue and blue-black. I expect you will be able to find some at the Michigan show. If you want to know for sure, just send Mr. Partridge an email asking him to make sure he brings a few bottles for you (he probably is already doing so, but if not, I am sure he would oblige).

I just answered in another thread about what I'd do with the empty bottles and I said I'd keep the Diamine bottles and find a use for them somehow because I thought them to be most attractive. So I stand with those who gave the nod to the Diamine line. Antique, maybe Victorian appearance and cool caps, someone put some thought into that design.

JELL-O, IT'S WHATS FOR DINNER!

Empty bottles are made for more ink - those new colours that you have created by mixing the ink from your full bottles.

I like the vintage-y look and feel of the Diamine bottles: great stability and capacity; loathe the ink. It's the Sailor bottles and ink, however that captivate me these days. Something about the incredibly simple, elegant lines and curves... I'm also a fan of Aurora's ultra-basic rectangle.
