Just saw announcement on Instagram, something Japanese. Can't wait. Anyone has any ideas what could it be? M800, M1000, something else?

Sorry, not a clue.  But of course I fear that if it's a larger pen, like an M800 or M1000, I wouldn't be able to use it (and almost certainly couldn't afford it...).

And I say that as the person whose two most expensive pens are the M405 Stresemann, followed closely behind by the M405 Blue Black.  And the only reasons I could afford them at ALL was because it was the one time in my life that I had a big discretionary budget for whatever I wanted -- and because I also saved some money by getting them on eBay from Rolf Thiel at Missing Pens (he didn't have to charge me VAT, and I didn't have to pay the US distributor markup; and back then, eBay didn't automatically collect sales taxes the way they do now...).

I could have gotten a regular M400 in the Blue Black (that was my favorite color from the beginning) for a little less money than the M405 -- but there was just SOMETHING about that rhodium plated nib and rhodium plated trim that just made me go, "OOOOOOOH!" when I saw the photo of it on his eBay store at the time.

Of course, an hour after hitting the "buy" button on those two pens?  I got a phone call from PayPal, going, "Did you know...."  And after verifying with them that it WAS a legit purchase, I got off the phone, looked at my husband, and said, "OMG -- I really DID just spend THAT much money on ONLY TWO PENS!"  Up till that point, the most expensive pen I'd ever bought -- also an M400 size, but an older one from the 1990s -- was the M400 Brown Tortoise -- and that was for a very special occasion (and it was still less expensive than any of the ones I'd seen in Blue/Black at the time I'd gotten it, and my husband was STILL freaking over how much that pen cost.  Until, of course, I got the M405 Stresemann, AND the M405 Blue Black...

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I did't like the black one released recently since they cover gold nib with black paint. Defies the point in my opinion. But if the new one would be nice I am happy to reroute the funds from the MB piggybank into this one.

I have that all black one. I do like it but I think it would look awesome all black except with a gold nib.

Funny thing. The matte black appearance INCLUDING the black nib is exactly why I bought this pen. 😄

The point of a gold nib isn´t just the appearance, but at least as much the writing experience coming with the material. It´s the same thing with the rhodium plated nibs that I think look so much better in some pens than the uncoated gold nibs.

Hear, hear! :)

I'm very happy in how Hamelin manages the brand (so far). I's afraid they would go down the Parker, or -heaven forbid- Sheaffer path.

I have heard that their standard nibs are basically automated from start to finish, testing included, but special nibs like the flex series, obliques, custom grinds etc. have to be manually tuned.

It is personal preference after all. I like seeing gold even if it is partially covered. I am not sure how much springiness if any there is due to gold for M800. I understand it is less spring than M1000 which is quite soft and flexy.

In any case, I see the counter on Instagram will hit the zero mark at 1400 CEST so, can't wait.

I love this look. What my heart really wants is a blue one, but I am considering this version as well.

If Instagram is to be believed (someone posted unofficial photo and info) it will be M1000 with abalone dust kind of thing and urushi laqueur. It is nice but not 3200CHF nice. At least for me. I think I stick to the original idea of a preowned 149.

Wow. I didn't like the all-black when I first saw the marketing images, although I've come around thanks to the real-life pics posted here. But this, like some of the other Raden LEs, really appeals to me. I'm not sure that makes it a "grail," as opposed to an idle daydream, since I'm not in this sector of the market and am not likely to find my way there. But it's fun to look at and imagine!

I have six M80Xs and have been contemplating getting my first M1000. So I am hoping the price isn't ridiculous as otherwise if I get an M1000 it is just a larger version of something I already have.

Don't get your hopes up!

My bet is the asking price is going to be insane.

@boilermaker1975: re this -- <I have six M80Xs and have been contemplating...M1000...it is just a larger version of something I already have>

No, not at all, as I understand it (I do not own and have never used an M800) the nibs are quite different, judging from all I read.  Have no hesitation, I say: if you like some character, springiness or mild flex, you owe yourself an M1000!  The size of the nib means that there is some inherent flex and it is a very pleasant nib to use (I have an EF on mine).  You ought to be able to find something around the £450-mark or a bit more than that.  I love mine!

This. Completely different feel.

I don’t have an M1000, but the nibs are really different from the M800 pens. I would have one if they weren’t so large, because the nib is like a paintbrush. If you think your M800s are wet pens, wait until you try the M1000. I have tried both an EF and a B (this one was the maple leaf maki-e version- so beautiful!) and they were both soft firehoses.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
