The grip is very subtly textured -- it's not rough at all -- it feels like a different material than the barrel (it's not, of course -- it's just coated). It's comfortable to hold and contrasts nicely in both looks and feel with the smoothness of the urishi finish. It also looks a bit greener in the pictures I took than it does in real life.

It feels a lot like the grip on an Aurora Asia, if you're familiar with that.

Wow, that is a very nice looking pen--so distinctive looking. How does that section feel? :)

I'm a little confused as to what the final color of these pens will be. Do they end up looking like this?

I think they won't be that green or as uniformly colored. If you go to the Nakaya site, click on "Product", then scroll down to the Decapod Heki tamenuri model -- over to the right you can click on the "Special Size Cigar" and see how it's aged. It's more like a piece of bamboo. HP

But I see why you're confused -- your picture is also from the Nakaya site and says it's Heki tamenuri. Hmmm ... perhaps it's all in how much the urishi lightens and clears. What an adventure!! HP

HP,

I sometimes feel that the grip on my Nakaya (the standard Heki-tame) is a little slippery, especially if I don't wash my hands immediately before using it. From the standpoints of both appearance and function, I think both you and Laura made sound choices. :clap1:

The one you identify as your favorite is mine, too -- and I believe it's more of what my pen will evolve into. Perhaps Jim can jump in here as well, but it's my understanding that the brown urishi will fade and "clear" over time, allowing more of the green to show through. This process can be accelerated by exposure to uv light, so I'm keeping my pen out of the light when I'm not using it. It will be interesting to watch what happens and, if you're interested, we can post pics as time passes. I think I'll also send a question to Nakaya about the differences in the two pics, and I'll let you know what they say.
