Vac700 repair

My friend has replaced the barrel of his TWSBI Vac700R and has this problem.  I have pasted below what he sent to me.

Any advice?

"I can’t get a proper suction on my TWSBI VAC700R. I think it’s how the nib and feed are inserted in the section. I can wobble it left and right a bit so it tells me it’s not a good fit. But it doesn’t fit any other way. Thoughts?"

My debt he paid, my death he died, that I might live.

I had this same problem with an Eco, I hope that the answer applies to the Vac.

Take a close look at the feed, the nib fits in one very precise location in the feed, you cannot fit the nib in the feed any old how.

My Ecos were also subject to vertical cracks in the section caused by pressure when the feed and nib were reinserted, bit of a disaster to be honest.

I know that Twsbi made a fuss about their pens being able to be taken apart but, at least for me, the real situation was 'just because you can doesn't mean that you should'.

In summary, check for cracks in the section, take the nib and feed out and make sure that the nib sits in the recess in the feed.

I can confirm that my Vac700R nib & feed don't 'wobble' so I agree it's likely to be a problem with the insertion of the nib/feed.  The 700R has a metal collar at the end of the section so I would have thought that it's unlikely to crack.
