I found one but can't afford it!

Recommended Posts

I have read a few times the mention of a number 8 nib and often the remark has been followed by - but I've never seen one.

I haven't either, but today I saw a photo. The pen itself looks stunning, but so is the price!

I saw one sold at a pen show a few years ago and hundreds of pounds exchanged for the privilege.

I had a Big Blackbird which had the same size nib as a MT #8 but not marked as such and therefore worth just pennies as a comparison.

Worth noting that the gold scrap value of nibs is now at record levels, perhaps even more than an ordinary gold nib might be worth.

There are Swan 48 pens coming up for auction on several well-known sites. A large Swan with a pineapple feed recently sold.

What's a "pineapple feed"?  I'm not familiar with the term.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Not so much Pineapple Ruth as Tulip

The feed looks very very ordinary, similar to a regular feed but inside the barrel sat a device shaped like a tiny tulip in  eye dropper pens on some Mabie Todds, I think the idea was to stop ink burping but not sure on that.
