Where to purchase a medium replacement nib for my pilot metropolitan

I want to replace the fine nib on my pilot metropolitan with a medium nib, I have been looking online for a medium nib replacement with no luck, I am able to find F & EF but that's all. Any suggestions where to purchase a medium nib?

I love the metropolitan but the fine nib is just a little scratchy for me.

@tom servo -- I don't know where you're located, but you might try contacting Vanness Pens.  I don't know if you could get just a nib (or how easy it would be to replace what's on your Metropolitan with one in the width you want) but I just looked at their website and they do have Metropolitans in stock that have medium nibs (I was a bit surprised as to how much Metropolitans are going for these days -- nearly DOUBLE what I paid for my first one :yikes: -- although, admittedly, that was more than a decade ago at this point).  And I know that (at least for when I was buying one of last year's Lamy al-Star SE pens, the Dark Dusk) most places only had them with, IIRC only extra fine, fine and medium nibs.  But I was able to swap out for a black nib instead of the standard steel nib AND get a broad nib at that, for no extra charge (although at least those nibs are easy to swap in and out between Safaris and al-Stars without taking the entire section apart.

It probably wouldn't hurt to ask (although of course there's no guarantee that you could get just a replacement nib; and you might have to have to pay a pro to swap the new nib in).

  Pilot doesn’t sell nibs separately, but a cost effective way to get a medium nib would be to purchase a Kaküno (about $15) or a Lightive/Explorer (about$20-25). These are all interchangeable with the Metropolitan.  Other Pilot pens with the same nib/feed configuration are the Prera, Penmanship, Plumix, and Pluminix. There may be others as well.

 
  The Wing Sung 698 nib is also interchangeable, and comes in both steel and 14k. The Soft Fine 14k is one of my favorite nibs of all my pens, and is one of my most inexpensive new gold nib pens (about  $50, all prices are in USD). It writes a fine line but is not at all scratchy.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 31 currently inked pens:

Parker Duofold Centennial IM, RO Rose Gold Antiqua

MontBlanc Bohème Noir F, MB Midnight Blue

Platinum PS-5000(?) EF, Platinum Mixable Aqua

Thanks for the replies everyone. I saw a Kakuno with a medium nib on Amazon for $10.00, I think that's what I'll do. Checking out YouTube videos, changing the nib on a Metropolitan seems to be a straightforward process. I think I can do that.

BTW Ruth, I'm located in Las Vegas.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
