Platinum Preppy Nib

Recommended Posts

I have a preppy EF that arrived with a damaged nib. I talked with Amazon and they told me to throw it away and they would send a new one.

Is there anywhere that I can just order a new nib? I would hate to throw the whole pen away.

**Sorry, I put this in the wrong group. Should be in the Japan group.

To the best of my knowledge, having been very heavily involved in the fountain pen hobby for the past eight years, including with an uncommonly high degree of attention to Japanese and Chinese brands in their respective home markets — no, you can't.

You don't have to. You can keep the physical item for spare parts. Do expect that, if you want a functional writing instrument, you'll have to pay for a whole new pen one way or another, no matter what you do with what's left of this one Amazon told you to dispose of as you see fit. It's not a case of having a small gap to fill that “should” only demand a small (fraction of the) price to pay.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Hear-say, I never tried to swap nibs into a Preppy.

Platinum Models: Nibs from Plaisir, Prefounte, and Meteor are 100% interchangeable.
Entire Section Swap: The easiest method is swapping the entire grip section (nib, feed, and housing) between Preppy, Plaisir, and Prefounte.

But you were looking for that.
Third-Party Options: Some third-party fude or stub nibs designed for these models can be found on sites like AliExpress.

Please check the sizes before ordering.

Maybe it's an opportunity to learn about nib repair or regrind it into a stub? At worst case you have spare parts for your new pen. Never toss a pen!

Will work for pens...

With very minor modifications, you can put a Lamy nib or similar on a Preppy. I recommend looking for some Chinese "aeroplane" nibs, some are very affordable.

True. I can't make it any worse.

Any photos? It is a very interesting action, in this way you can use some !.!,1.5 or 1.9  Nibs in the Preppy and Profonte models that only have a limited range of nibs.

Only some old terrible pictures. From memory the "wings" on the side of the feed (over which the nib slides) only needed to be made a bit thinner. Not sure how the feed will cope with thicker nibs, it's fine with the EF :D
