A Mentmore marbled raspberry and cream

Hello everyone,

And here is another British pen from my collection. This one is a bit odd! I believe that this is a Mentmore Golden Platignum pen set, mint, unused and still in its cardboard presentation box with an art deco design. My guess is that this is from around 1935 or so. It has nickel plated silver clip and a 14ct gold nib. It was clearly a relatively budget pen when it was made and the button pusher mechanism (hidden behind the back cap) is quite rudimentary but works. Given the nickel trim and small nib for the size of the pen tells me that it was budget friendly.

That said, the psychadelic colouring of the barrel and cap is very well executed and quite unique - I have never seen such crazy colouring and it has not deteriorated at all over the years.

Have you ever seen one of these?

Best regards,

Alexander

Wow!  That is really a spectacular looking set!  I would have guessed from the material that it was a lot newer than that, but don't really know very much about the brand.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
