What waterman might this be?

I have an Waterman's gold-filled basket-weave pen without a number on the barrel end, and a clip that has no rivets, and no globe or "Clip Cap" inscriptions. I'm trying to figure out what model it is, and what its date might be.

 

There is no globe, or other inscription on the lever. The clip has a diamond pattern. It has a genuine Waterman's nib, but I can't see the number.

 

In the pictures below, it's on the left, next to a confirmed 0552 on the right, with the same overlay. The mystery pen is shorter than the 0552 (5-1/8", compared to 5-1/2" for the 0552). They are about the same size posted.

 

Any thoughts on what it might be are welcome!

Sorry, no clue -- I only have a few Waterman pens.  But I've seen similar overlays on other brand pens besides Waterman -- I have several Morrison ringtops (two with gold fill overlays and one with a sterling silver overlay); plus I've seen pens made by Townsend, Eclipse, and Parker at various tables at pen shows over the years.

Thanks. There's a "Waterman's" imprint on the cap, so we know this is a Waterman's.

Oh, I'm not doubting you on that.  I'm pretty sure that my first Morrison pen (which I bought at my first pen show) was mistaken for a Waterman by a friend of mine (formerly here on FPN as "Uncle Red") -- who sadly, seems to have fallen off the planet.  Pretty sure that (at least from a few feet away (he was at the next table over from the one where I was looking at it) Red thought it might be a Waterman, and he told me, "If you don't buy that, I WILL!"

The right one might be a version of Waterman 552 1/2, from the 1920s, Waterman 552 1/2 Fountain Pen (1920s)- 14k Gold Filigree Overlay, Lever Filler, Flexible Ideal Nib (Excellent +, Restored) - Peyton Street Pens

Thanks, but I'm only asking about the pen on the left. I know for certain that the pen on the right is a 0552.

 

I believe it's a 0503, but confirmation would be welcome.

Is there no marking on the base of the barrel, as is usual with Watermans?  Perhaps rubbed clean away with age and polishing?

Waterman's pens were not always marked.

While I'm not sure of the model, I think your pen is from the early 1930's going by the design of the clip (looking like a coffin) and lever.

 David Nishimura has a similar pen a 0503, you should check out his info with his example. I have only seen pictures of these in silver very cool

Thanks for that pointer! Yes, this pen looks identical to the one that David has. The feed is slightly different, with a "Watermans" imprint on the back, which David's example lacks. The nib on my pen is also likely to be a #2, although the "2" is hidden inside the section.

 

I'd expected that this was a 0503, and it's great to have confirmation.
