InkFlash - Sailor Manyo yamabuki

InkFlashes are short and quick presentations that show just enough detail to get a feel for the ink. I'm exploring inks in the Sailor Manyo series. This orange-yellow yamabuki is one of them. Not a great writing ink: lubrication is only so-so, and the ink is too unsaturated in many of my pens. But it's a great colour for drawing!

While writing, the wet ink shows a lot of charm - it looks dynamic, with nice shading. But when it dries, that loveliness disappears, and the result looks flat, one-dimensional and without depth.

Writing sample on papers good and bad

Written with Lamy Safari M-nib. The bleed-through test is done as follows: 1x, 2x and 3x fill of the squares from left to right, to get increasing saturation of the paper. Beware that on the reverse side, the most saturated square appears on the left.

Note: with the Paperblanks sample, I grabbed a B-nib Safari by accident, and was too lazy to redo the writing sample with the usual M-nib.

I knew I was missing something. The ink flash reviews.  

Great job of highlighting this ink succinctly. Orange inks are often dry and for me need to be more on the red spectrum to be usable for writing. 

Love the doodle. I'm guessing this is somewhere on Venus or maybe a sun.

@namrehsnoom -- Not a color for me by any stretch of the imagination.  But thanks as always for the comprehensive review.  And I totally agree with @LizEF about the fun artwork.

Yamabuki was one of the inks I found that "Outlined" with a lighter glow around  a darker center of the letters.  (This is on Cosmo Snow)  

I consider this different from 'Haloing' which would be a darker outline around a lighter center with no glow.

I appreciate as always your meritorious inclusion of 8 or so comparatives here. No, I am by no means trying to overdo things here, but the first thing I thought of was PP's Sazerac.

Sazerac didn't make it for the 3x3 comparison grid. Compared to yamabuki, it's much more orange with substantially less yellow in the mix. See comparison pic below:

Aha... you're right. To be honest, I myself didn't do a real comparison (of this ink on papers... both of which I do have...) It was just my memory which coughed that out... Thanks again for your innumerable comparisons.

[tinfoilhat] Hmm... I'm under the impression that Sailor systematically methodically pushes introduces inks from their "studio" line into the "Manyo" line, giving them names instead of just numbers... Could that hold truth? 🤔 [/tinfoilhat]

No idea.  I've tried a couple of samples of the "Studio" lines, (trying to find an ink that gave me the same color and water resistance as Noodler's Kung Te Cheng, which wasn't as cloggy) but overall haven't really looked at that line all that much.

Hmm... For an ink called "Yamabuki" I think I prefer the one from Kyo-no-oto (Yamabukiiro). Admittedly it's greener and the Sailor one is closer to the colour of the flowers (Japanese kerria).
