Ideas for Fountain Pen Day 2025

Misfit

Recommended Posts

Fountain Pen Day is November 7 this year (first Friday).  Part of celebrating can involve buying a pen, or ink or paper, or any and all.

Using your pens is another way to celebrate. @taimdala and I both have a pen in common. I suggested we plan a day to use the pen in common. She suggested Fountain Pen Day. It seems perfect for that.

So, for instance, @taimdala @Ceramicist and I all have the Levenger True Writer Sapphire Mosaic. Likely a few more members do. So let’s all use our Sapphire Mosaic pens on Fountain Pen Day.

If you want to do something like this, instead of spending money, and know of a pen you have in common with someone here, this can be the thread to request you both or all use that pen November 7. Like I have the True Writer Pinkly in common with @AmandaW so I could ask her to use that pen on Fountain Pen Day.

Maybe you own a popular pen model. I’m guessing here, but let’s say the Pilot Metropolitan or Metro Pop. You could post if anyone has the White Tiger, let’s use it on Fountain Pen Day. This is just for free, communal fun.

If you have other suggestions you wish to share for Fountain Pen Day, please share them here. For instance, coupon codes would help those shopping on FPD.

This is how @taimdala phrased it:

Fountain Pen Double Day!

Choose your Pen. Choose your Double. Set the Date. Go!

Should we make a separate thread for this? Isn't National Fountain Pen Day the first Friday in November? If so, we need to get crackin'! How many FPN members can we get to body double with us on this?

Whaddya say, @Misfit

What say you all, FPN members?

Wanna?

I liked her name for it: Fountain Pen Double Day. Or triple or quadruple.

Sounds fun. Which ink?

Will work for pens...

Mine is about out of ink. Any suggestions? We might have Iroshizuku Yama Budo in common. I have Edelstein Star Ruby, Diamine Amaranth if closely matching inks is the goal.

Another excuse to buy another pen! I like it.

Wait, we need excuses? Glad to provide one. I hope some online sellers have offers this year.

Maybe it would be a good day to introduce a friend to FP use. Another possibility is to give a beginner's FP to a young student.

Hang on, I should have a Retro51 35th Anniversary pen by then... which @boilermaker1975 also has. Mine is in the house. Somewhere. I saw a package arrive...

Will work for pens...

@AmandaW I hope you’ll still consider Pinkly for that day too. Or we could choose our own Fountain Pen Double Day to use our True Writer Pinkly pens.

I have a few pens that I never inked that are quite expensive. I plan to take at least one of them out and ink it up to use that day.

I can easily use two pens in one day. And I do have Yama-budo ink for Pinkly. 💗

Will work for pens...

Hi, y'all! Finally found you here. Thank you @Misfit for kicking off this thread!

I would happily Double with @Misfit with the TW Sapphire Mosaic.

Is there anyone out there with a TWSBI Eco or 580 looking for a Double? Or a Platinum Century Chartres Blue or Bourgone Red who needs a Double? Or a Pilot Metro Pop Red Wave? Or a Sheaffer No Nonsense?

If so, I volunteer!

As for what we do while Doubling...

Do we write something and post a picture?

For instance: do we collaboratively write a passage from literature or a poem, taking turns by paragraph or stanza, post  pictue of our writing and tag the person to write the next portion as part of our post?

What are some other things we can do together on Fountain Pen Day?

Or we can post pics of doodles or mini art things or something.

Funny stick figures.

Kawaii animals.

Mandalas.

Zentangles....

We could do anything, really

Gosh, the world is our oyster! Somebody start shucking and don't be stingy with the lemon wedges!

Oh! Oh! Oh!

I just had an idea!

I have a lot of pens all inked up in my pen drawer in something close to a ROY G BIV + Black, and Brown. For art purposes, of course.

I bet I could make a little bit of multicolored art using each pen I Double with. 😉

I am *not* saying we all have to do this. I'm just saying this is one possibility that ** I ** might do.

Hmmm ...

The more pens I Double, the more colors I can use!

I must admit, this idea is growing on me!

Yama Budo it is! It’s a great ink.

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. It is a specific film that produces transparencies, or slides, by a process not used for any other film. There are other color trans

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
