For a Basket Ball Lover

Recently I got an order for a Urushi pen for a basket ball lover.
The preferred size is that of a Namiki Yukari and the pen shall show some basket ball symbols like ball and or hoop.
This is what came out.

Doesn't look much like a basket ball, sorry  Looks more like (the planet) Jupiter among the stars...

 

I guess mother-of-pearl ('raden') isn't too suitable; maybe coral? The combination of the metal rim of the cap with the maki-e 'net' is spot-on though! Clever!
