Empire state pen show

I'm surprised that we finally got a pen show in NYC, so I'm planning to go on Saturday morning at 10 AM as this will be my first one.

Is anyone else going too?

Also, if you've gone to one in the past, is there a good estimate how much nib adjustments will cost? Thanks.

Sadly no.  Too much going on this month (and to some extent next month) already.  Might look into it for next year, though, since my husband and I could use it as an excuse to visit his sister.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I met up with some new FP friends on Saturday morning, and I got my FP tuned and smoothed, which was my main goal for the entire event. It was my 1st ever pen show, so I had no expectations as it took place at the Midtown Hilton and it was a bunch of large rooms with some vendor booths inside along the walls.

Although I ended up too late for the free notebook, I was there for approx 3 hours before going home, and it'd started raining after the 1st hour, so I had forgotten my umbrella, so I had to walk home in the rain. I'll try to be more careful at the 2nd Empire State Pen Show in the future.

The show was alright. It was a little larger than the old Long Island show at its peak.  I went today (Sunday) and there were not many people there, which I attributed to the storm warnings.  There were a bunch of empty tables and I assumed that a lot of vendors got outta Dodge before the worst of the weather. As far as nib tweakers go, Josh Lax and Gena Salorino were there along with a couple of guys I didn't know. Some of the usuals were there: Truphae, Crazy Allen, Yafa, Goldspot, others, and many vendors that I didn't recognize from other shows.  I was told that Saturday was much busier, which is usually how these things go.

I hope the show stays and grows. It's a shame that the weather played a factor in this, I hope the promoters don't get discouraged.

Oh, nice, yeah, I did see some members of the Big Apple Pen Club there, which is fun, as IDK that Josh Lax had opened his own shop now since he used to help with the Pelikan Hub for a few years now.

Also, I haven't been into new FP for a while now, so I didn't know most of the vendors other than like Carolina Pen Company, Lemur Inks, and Goldspot. Then I saw some vintage pen sellers too, and they had a big variety of brands in cases for display.

Before I left, I saw it had more crowds showing up on Saturday even tho it had been raining quite hard for a few hours, but I saw more people than I expected for the 1st show. Also, some vendors hadn't fully setup at 10AM where I arrived, until a few hours later, and most tables were full.

@Ambien I’m glad you got to a pen show and enjoyed it. Did you come away with any new to you pens or paraphernalia?

Greetings, yes, I'm glad I finally got to visit a pen show, but it was a last-minute decision, so I hadn't saved much funds or had a specific plan to check out certain brands IRL as I saw a link to it like 1 week before the date.

Although I did make some new FP friends, and we talked about it, and prices have gone up alot from when I had been much more active in buying new FP and stationery. Mostly, I went to have 1 FP tuned and smoothed as the usual wait list is extremely long if I had to ship it out.

Never plan these things, just go with the flow and enjoy. It is good that you also made new friends who are also like minded individuals

Well, planning for most things is more of a me thing than for a pen show in particular, just it takes me a long time to commute to the area and it's only once a year so I want to be sure next time to have a better idea of the subway lines and different vendors for 2026 too.

Also, we have the Pelikan Hub in NYC in 2 weeks, so I'll have to get directions and everything soon.
