Man 100 corroded ring replacement

Hello ;

Hope everyone is well.

I was hoping to get some help/advice on replacing the gold (corroded) ring on a new-to-me Man 100 Opera pen I just obtained. My other Man 100 Patricians are perfectly fine because they were NOS new when I purchased them and I only fill them by removing the converter, and filling said converters directly to avoid corrosion, and I wipe the ring after using them too.

This new to me Opera , however, has not been subjected to such overzealous maintenance…

I bought a  remanufactured ring newly dipped in gold and want to replace it, but I am wondering if I should just send it to a specialist. I don’t want to destroy something.

Has anyone successfully replaced the ring on their Man 100 pen that could give me advice ?

Thanks !

Thank you, that is very helpful.

Looks like it is simply a matter of pulling the nib and feed out slowly…..still I fear for delicate things in my paws , sometimes.

home. I hate little delicate jobs like this because I end up breaking things, but I was able to pull it all apart and my Opera pen is now back in service with a new ring. I ended up getting the aftermarket ring from Pentooling.com, and used just a tiny amount of shellac as a thread sealant .

My only complaint , if we can call it that, is that the replacement ring is a matte gold finish and not reflective like the original. It also seems to be a little harder to uncap, but I am sure as I wear it down that will change.
