I'm surprised...

...that nobody (that I can see) has reported yet on the M805 Metal Sleeve (nor on the M600 Art Collection II 'Rudi Rother' for that matter).

@lamarax This is the first I'm hearing about this model.  And honestly? While the design is kind of interesting, M800 size pens are just too big and heavy for me to use in general.

Now if they came out in a couple of years with this in an M400 size (and the price wasn't nosebleed level) I MIGHT be interested....

That second one is a really pretty pen.  But sadly, way too rich for my blood.... :crybaby:

I'm now thinking back to when I got the M405 Stresemann -- it was the one time in my life when I had a nice piece of chump change discretionary budget for whatever I wanted; and I saved money by getting it from Rolf Thiel on his eBay store, because I didn't have to pay the US distributor markup, and he didn't have to charge VAT, and back then, eBay didn't collect sales tax.  Of course, I then said to myself, "Hmmmm -- wonder what else he's got at the moment...."  And ended up ALSO buying the M405 Blue Black (which was slightly more expensive than the regular M400 -- but there was just SOMETHING about that rhodium plated trim and nib on the M405 ).

And then, about an hour later, I got the phone phone, going, "Did you know...  a charge of X amount was sent to a vendor in Europe from your PayPal account...."  And after assuring the person on the phone that it was a legit charge, I got off the phone and looked at my husband and said, "OMG -- I really DID just spend that much money on ONLY TWO PENS!" :yikes:

Never heard of the first one and it doesn't exactly fit my style. The second one is very pretty. Is the design an Indian motif?

That is the first I heard of the M805 Metal Sleeve.

But the M600 my wife has reserved one.

I'm glad Pelikan is doing different things, but M805 Metal Sleeve doesn't do it for me. Now, if instead of black opaque resin they had used a transparent grey resin, making it a skeleton, I'd be all over it.

Sorry to say that the metal sleeve does not appeal to me at all.

I have a Pelikan 915 sterling silver Toledo that makes that 800 heavy.

I'd swap that one in for a smaller 400=700 Toledo, something I'd use.

So that will make for a real heavy pen in 800.

How heavy is the overlay?

In one of the reasons I like the 600 so much; is for its girth, it is a very nimble pen, and light for it's size.

That is not an Ebay policy.  It has been required following a US court decision a number of years ago, based on law that says that business that make over $100K a year are required to collect sales tax for the customers state.

Thank you Ron.

So I don't have to worry about adding Vat to anything I try and sell on Ebay. It was ages ago the last time I sold anything on Ebay; going to flea markets instead.

I've been going to live auctions mostly for my pen needs the lsast decade...unfortunately the last 3 years, there are telephone and Computer bidders from around the world. It's no longer just me beating the dealers in the Auction Hall.

At first I even found the M600 size too heavy (I tried one of the Pink and White ones at a pen show a number of years ago).  I did eventually get the M600 Violet and White, but the cap developed cracks which sucked a lot of ink into the cracks.

The M200/M400 size pens are a much better size and weight for me.  I keep lusting after Toledos and a couple of the "Great Cities" line pens -- but can't afford them.

That is mostly my middle name... The Pelikan 600 Grand Place, has been haunting my dreams ever since I have seen a picture of one some 12 years and more. That pen used costs more than new.:crybaby:

Yeah, I've had the same problem with the the M600 Piccadilly Circus.  Just too rich for my blood (but will be high on the shopping list if I ever win the lottery....

In the meantime, I content myself with great deals on vintage pens at estate sales....

I think that they are priced more reasonably when you go with the "Okay Cities" line.

The Chagrin Falls 800 is supposed to be lovely. ;-)

Of course, now you made me look up where Chagrin Falls actually is.... :headsmack:

And I thought Pennsylvania had some strangely named places....  Of course, years ago, I stopped at some gift shop in southeastern PA on the way to something in the Philly area and saw a T-shirt that said, "Virginia may be for lovers -- but Pennysylvania has Intercourse!"

ETA:  No, I did NOT buy that shirt, BTW....

I'm guessing that they didn't stock the "Pennsylvania has Blue Ball" t-shirt. Apparently that's where you wind up if you miss the Intercourse exit.

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
