M2 Parts Swapping

Recommended Posts

When I recently saw new-to-me colorways of the M2 AND the long blade I’d heard about but not found on AliExpress, I gave into impulse—twice. I got the rollerball version in blue and the long blade in stealth black. I found that the stealth black version didn’t quite click for me, so I tried switching sections and the swap I like! The blue pen’s clip and section match and the stealth rollerball has a touch of blue to relieve the matte black.

The #26 long black Fine is very smooth in every direction but the flip side of that is the line variation between horizontal and vertical is not pronounced—but it’s there. Very pleasant writing experience.

The M2 Rollerball has a section that was interchangeable with the other aluminum M2. On Amazon at least, the RB is only available in a few of the more conventional colors. The short refill is a Hongdian-labeled product, marked as a Fine/Black. It wrote quite smoothly. The refill screws into the section, so no internal parts. The M2 RB is going to be my new ‘car pen.’

I like that swap! Looks very nice.

Thank you for mentioning the Long Blade nib. I didn't know that they offered that with the M2. It's in my cart right now. I've been looking to try out that nib shape and I really like my other M2, so it's a no-brainer!

Nice conversion!!

I want to mention something else...I notice like in my M2 that the clip is misaligned. Is this regular to chinese pens?

When you say misaligned, I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean it’s crooked or that it’s misaligned in relationship to something else?

I mean that it's not straight with respect the cap. Lies towards the right side.

My stealth black is slightly bent to the right as well, so it could be a common problem. The bend is so slight I hadn’t worried about it. You can often re-align clips with some careful pressure in the opposite direction.

Is it possible to remove the clip and clip ring? Or are they integral parts of the pen?

I saw a photo this weekend of someone’s M2 (on Reddit) after they knocked the hinge pin out and broke off the side supports. The ring was still present and there was a jagged messy area where the clip was. It didn’t look like an improvement.

I've seen this problem in almost every chinese pen

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
