I was happy to get a newsletter from the Andersons today, and read that they are gearing up to gettting back into business! 🥳

They have a new YouTube channel and will be making their first podcast this Friday (15th August, 1:30 p.m. CDT) under their new enterprise name Cardinal Pens;

I very much hope that they get back into the pen show beat, they used to be great to talk to and buy from whenever I ran into them at a show, and they always had a great selection. They got out of traveling when they opened the Chicago store, but now I hope to see them back out there.

I also saw the email about the new business and am glad they have resurfaced (especially after the problems they had with the Chicago store -- apparently the guy running it for them had sticky fingers... 😡).

ETA: And by "sticky fingers" I mean that the guy was stealing from the till....

Actually that didn't last too long. Lisa took over the store - it's the reason she was living almost full time in Chicago before the covid closure, which gave rise to what did the real damage.

I hope so too. It may be hard to do, though, as Lisa now has a non-pen related job, but I'd love to seem them out there too!!

Oh hadn't heard about that.  I had heard that that the guy stealing from them is part of the reason the Chicago store closed.

I looked, and I got the email too. I hope they stock Esterbrook sacs and J-bars like before. So happy they found a way to come back on their terms.

They’ve been pretty transparent in their previous podcasts and emails , so I don’t think this qualifies as telling tales out of school.  They were forced to close the Chicago location during much of the height of the pandemic.  I think they were able to defer rent until the lockdown was over, but their landlord I believe insisted on being made whole for the lost rent, which led to nearly two years of litigation, and ultimately bankruptcy (what I hadn’t realized until their most recent email was that they had to declare not only corporate bankruptcy, but personal bankruptcy as well).

I have already cleared my not so busy agenda to make some time for this.  I was really hoping for something working out for them and I'm glad to hear that its more personal and under their terms.  Their departure left a real big hole in the hobby for a lot of folks out there so seeing them again will be great for a lot of reasons.  Looking forward to it.

The Anderson's new website is up at https://cardinalpens.com and you can see their introductory livestream at the youtube link mentioned above.  The site has the kinds of things you'd expect including both vintage and new pens.

It's nice to have them back!

Currently most used pen: Parker 51 Aerometric <F> -- filled with Waterman Mysterious Blue ink.

I've celebrated this by buying an Esterbrook from them! (If I hadn't been waiting for my credit card cycle to turn over, I would've gotten the gorgeous jade pre-Duofold Junior that was listed over the weekend... another one for la recherche des plumes perdues.)

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
