Parker 75 Sterling Silver Cisele, Made in Aust.

I recently acquired a very nice Parker 75 Cisele. On the back of the cap band, it says, Sterling Cap & Band Made in Aust. I'm assuming this is Austria, but it may be Australia. I've not been able to find any reference anywhere to Parker 75s made anywhere other than the USA or France. I believe the pen is circa 1972 or 1973. It has the shorter clip with the longer feather. The Parker name is still engraved on the front of the cap band; it was moved to the rear around 1974, from what I can determine. Any insight on this pen will be appreciated.

I have a 75 marked the same as yours but with a smooth finish and an opal set as a jewel in the cap.  I was told that the pen was made in Australia.

(Sorry, but I haven’t polished this pen lately, so the silver is tarnished.)

Import and commercial policy made it necessary for some companies to manufacture their pens locally. You can find Parker pens made in Argentina or Esterbrook made in Mexico. It is possible that Parker made 75 pens in Australia, as Sheaffer did some models there.

Until about 10-15 years ago, Parker had an office in Noble Park, a suburb of Melbourne. Previously they were located in a larger premises in eastern Melbourne when still attached to Gillette.

They did not manufacture or service pens here but sent any service or repairs to Hong Kong. It was slow but reliable and any repairs that they could not carry out generally resulted in a substitute new pen.

I acquired a Sonnet Dark Grey with 14k gold nib and a matt black/black Premier with 18k gold nib through their generosity when they could not repair old "51"s.

As I had plenty of other "51"s to make up for the inability to repair, I did well.

Sadly they're gone.

The AUST stands for Australia, is the nib marked 585?
I believe these pens are from later than 1974, as the design matches the very last U.S.A. produced Cisele.
These pens had a wider cap band but with the Parker name below the clip. I speculate this change was made to facilitate the stamping of a date code, which was introduced in the U.S.A. in 1979.
Incidentally, I have not seen a made in Aust (or Canada) Cisele pen with a date code. It is possible that these pens were stamped (made in Aust / Canada) when they arrived in the relevant country, thus no date stamp.
It is also possible that these pens were overstock pens from the U.S.A., sent to other countries when Parker U.S.A. decided to axe the Parker 75 in 1981.

As to why the stamping is transposed on the AUST. pen, I don't know.
