Pens and tools for Artists

Hi, I'm Edmund, and I do ink and wash watercolour sketches. In the past for the ink part I've used

- fineliners:  Unipin, Staedtler, Micron

- fountain pens Pilot 91(M) Vanishing Point(M,F), Justus 95(F), Platinum desk sketch pen

- sable hair fountain pen brush (Kuretake).

For paper I mainly sketch on watercolor paper, going anywhere from smooth to Arches Torchon rough; in the case of rough the drawing is really just the sketch for the paint.

I'm curious what sort of tools you guys use for art purposes, and how you refill them. I refilled the fineliners using a syringe and India ink, and I use Platinum Carbon ink in the other pens as it's waterproof, while Pilot ink will run when water is put on the paper.

I use fountain pens for sketching -- usually one with an M nib -- and the only ink I use is Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black. A few years ago, when I got serious about using fountain pens for sketching, I tried quite a few different inks. Pelikan is the one that stuck, mostly because it was the driest ink I found. The only paper I use is index card stock. As far as filling goes, all of my pens are either piston fill or have converters.

For actual, finished art, I use dip pens. I use a Speedball B-3 nib for broad lines (outlines) and a Zebra G nib for hatching / cross hatching / whatever. I use Bombay brand India ink. The paper is Strathmore Bristol.
