It would be cool if there was an ink that left raised letters when it dried but I don't know of any-- I think you'd need paint to do that.

The samples I posted above dried with raised letters, above the level of the paper, that you could feel with your finger.🤷‍♂️

If the ink is wet enough, you could use rubber-stamping embossing powder. You sprinkle it on and then hit it with a heat gun. It winds up raised (and very handy as a sealant if you want to color in whatever you stamped without making the stamp ink bleed.)

Fascinating... I will have to investigate this thank you!

Did you ever have the fluffy fabric pens when you were little? They were a trend in the 1980s. Draw onto fabric, then dry the ink (paint really) with a hair dryer and it created a fluffy marshmallow poofiness. There were some called Fluffits, and other brands were probably available.

I look for two toned shading

Oooo, yes, I love that, but I don’t really help matters by writing with finer nibs. Sailor PG MF and M are as broad as I go, but with high-shading inks I still get some lovely variation. 🥰 Mountainofink.com was a wonderfully helpful resource when I was trying to find some good shaders.

Disclaimer: I mention that site a lot, but I have no affiliation to it, it’s just become my first port of call whenever I want to find something new.

Ah thank you! Have you tried a lot of their inks? If so, do they usually behave this way?

Almost any ink will behave this way if the ink flow is heavy enough and the paper is relatively non-absorbent. 😀

I have 4 of their inks, and this is the first time I’ve taken note of it. I use them pretty regularly, so I will see if the other three do the same. I was using a coated paper at the time, and the pen is a very wet italic broad nib, which correlates with USG’s observations.
