Guider Pocket Zimbo FT:

This is a recent acquisition. A custom order executed by  Mr G Lakshmana Rao of Guider pen works, Rajahmundry. I am a big fan of the push cap ebonites by Guider. This is a pocket sized version of the Zimbo push cap.

Guider pens are loosely classified on the basis of girth. The small, medium, big and Zimbo are the four girths available. The standard Zimbo push cap pens are humongous and are not suited for pocket carry. Thus I had to go for this custom order. I opted for the eye dropper fill option with.a stock guider nib friction fit over an ebonite feed, they also offer a Schmidt nib option. On  receiving the pen I have replaced the stock nib with

a Kanwrite BB and the feed with a sheaffer ebonite one.

The dimensions of the pen  in mm are as follows:

Capped Length: 136

Uncapped length without nib: 100

Posted length without nib: 140

Cap dia max: 19

Barrel dia max: 18

Section dia min:14.7

Ink capacity: 4.49ml

The pen is finished immaculately. The gloss is superb. And the rod segments appear to be handpicked with no defects.

Onto some pictures

The pen has been carried since the last few weeks and has quickly become a favorite. I am glad Mr Rao agreed to make this pen for me.

That's a nice mini Jumbo pen Sir 👍  Do you intend to set the nib deeper into the section in future, or find it better this way?

Thank you sir.
Following the old rule of the thirds in nibdom, the 35mm nibs are usually set to 35/3 mm inside the section and 2/3 of 35mm as exposed length. So the typical exposed length is 23.3mm. This nib is set to 25.1mm exposed length so that it offers the correct angle to the paper as per my preference.

Great purchase and thanks for the pics. Interesting to see that it is roughly the length of a lamy2000, unposted, comfortable length.

Hi. This is really a great customisation. I have in recent times been quite comfortable with pens like plp jumbo, ranga abhimanyu grand etc. I find the short length and the thickness being a perfect match for me. I find this even more tempting.

Why did you choose an ed? Any particular reason. Your previous customisation I believe was a 3 in 1

yes indeed. I like jumbo pens. But of late, I am trying for jumbo girth but pocket length pens.

My previous order link was an ED only. I prefer ED as it’s cheaper. I can fit a sheaffer feed and almost any no 35 nib of any width that I prefer. I find nib units restrictive. Guider is most comfortable with Schmidt. If push comes to a shove, I can always thread the section for any nib unit. 🙏🏼
However, for the general user, I strongly recommend a Schmidt nib unit with the push cap pens as ordinary ebonite feeds can lead to ink ejection when the pen is rapidly uncapped.
