Do you ever count your inks?

190. Not too bad as quite a lot of those are teeny bottles, like 10ml Herbins and 30ml Diamines. I really have to stop buying teal inks though. I am helpless in the presence of a good teal. I also seem to have an alarming amount of blues, but I suppose it's sort of inevitable. The one colour I don't have a lot of is black. I have HOD, mainly for bujo, Take-sumi and Carbon Black, and a few black-adjacent Diamines.

Half my collection is also tiny bottles. Considering Diamine sell their 30ml bottles for the price of samples, it's always tempting to pick up anything somewhat interesting.

I'm also much the same as you when it comes to black. I've got Perle Noir, Carbon Black, and a couple of Diamine inks that aren't supposed to be black but essentially are. My vice is Blue Blacks- there aren't many I don't own at this point, it seems. 😅

I agree. It's the way I got to figure out what I liked and didn't like concerning inks without breaking the bank or feeling too bad if I got something that really didn't suit me.

It does make it harder to justify a more expensive bottle of ink by another brand unless I truly love the color!

I'm a compulsive list-maker, so, yeah. 72 currently, including samples and homemade blends (so just under a 2:1 ink to pen ratio). Wait, hold on... [click] okay, 75.

Agreed! When a bottle costs £20 or £30+ justification does become difficult, and I find that I need the ink to have special qualities in order to buy it, rather than it just being another dye based non-waterproof ink like the Diamine range. Even £10 inks from other brands typically have zero advantage over Diamine's £2 range (aside from prettier bottles).

I have 54. A few years back after accidently buying a second bottle of the same ink (which I did not need). A lot of them are Diamine which I purchased a few years back during one of Cult Pens sales/specials.

I also bought from Vanness used ink bottles which at the time they would engrave for free, allowing me to store nearly all of my inks in glass - both for the esthetics and so I could actually fill a pen directly. The small bottle neck opening is the only thing I don't like about the Diamine 30ml plastic bottles.

So, I put all of my information into a Word document including my opinions on the ink, an image of a swatch, which pen (if any + the nib size) it was currently in, and which bottle (ie sample vial, original container, or which old-labelled bottle) it was in.

This has also served as a reminder - which I need more and more as I get older - of the ink in my EDC pens which makes refills less error prone.

Why would I do that?

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Yes! Six sets of eight colours in 18ml bottles (ergo, 48), add twelve different ‘waterproof’/pigment inks (in a set), then two bottles of Pantone ‘Colour of the Year 2022” (also pigement) inks, and six bottles of Ostrich 90X scented inks.

27 other (new-to-me) inks are due to arrive early next week.

Another 41 due to be delivered in the first half of June.

Wow! If you get a chance, can you share the colors you got? I did look up the Color of the Year 2022--very pretty periwinkle!

And congrats!!

Not a slacker. Either selective or you know what you like and what you want. The pretty colors are my downfall (as my yarn stash will also attest).

Inspires the collector (or hoarder) side of my inky soul.  Create the same thing with ink splotches and you would have a full blown case of ink porn.

I'll admit that I have long since given up on the count.

I do try to keep track of what the different samples are, and have inventory files of the inks by brand and by color.  But the actual #?  No.

Bad enough that my husband tells people that the pen stash was just the gateway to the "real" collection....

And of course I've got a bunch of samples coming....

I don't want to know. Ok, I could get a vague figure from my main spreadsheet plus samples from another. (And ignore the backup bottles in the drawer and the ones I didn't swatch yet.)

There really are some things which are best left alone. Let's just say 'nowhere near as many as Smug' and leave it at that.

In my defence: I do use them. The pen and ink cabinet is definitely my happy place.

Will work for pens...

These arrived today to upset the count some more:
