In that case, only the Eisenhower 51 fits the bill. Not because of who used it, but rather for what it was used (symbolically ending WWII in Europe).

To me, "my grail" means a subjectively valued goal that is ultimately attainable by one person (or entity).

Who used it and what it was used for is inseparable. However, If I owned the pen, it's just a pen in my hands. If I used a Lamy Safari to sign a personally significant document, that gives the pen something that is beyond a writing tool. This why the question of what is my grail is meaningless without what the pen was used to accomplish.

I guess you don't like museums very much (or their establishment/role in culture society) 🙂

This is how I’ve always understood Grail as being used when not actually talking about the holy grail.

but i want one of Eisenhower sets because i love “51”s AND i deeply admire Ike.

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Pelikan 100N Toledo from the late 1930s/early 1940s.

Sigh.

Even if I could find one, I am not at all prepared to pay about € 10,000 or more for it. Well... I think so. Let´s hope that I will never actually find one. 🙈

Neat! I don’t own any pelikans. But I sure do like the way those stresseman ones look… good thing I flat out can’t afford one :)

Oh, the M400s are rather affordable, the vintage 400s even more so. Or are you into the larger models?

Which would be your colour of choice?

The grey striped one? Stresseman or something like that I think it’s called.  I think Ruth has one. Pretty sure that’s where I saw it.

right now (and for the foreseeable future) the pen budget remains firmly at $0. 😕

I have something like 30 pens disassembled and awaiting parts (sacks and seals and diaphragms) if I ordered them all at once I’d be in for over $300 … I need to sell some pens in order to fund repairing those 30, ironically, to sell them ! :P

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

🤣

Yes, the grey one is called Stresemann, I wasn't sure if you meant that one, because sometimes the other striped models are referred to as Stresemann pens, too. But the grey one actually carries the name. And it comes in several sizes. Ruth has got a M405, I have got a M805 and there are a M605 and a M1005, too.

Maybe one day. 😉

Maybe. But there’s a LOT of “51”s (and snorkels and balances…) I still need before I spend money on a pelikan :)
