Writing letter letters for charity

Hi everyone,

Today I sat down and looked for charities in the UK that ask people to write letters or cards which will be forwarded to people in need of social connection, or just a little cheer. Most of the ones I found involve writing one-off letters, and you will not receive a reply, but you will know that you have made a small difference to somebody’s life. There is also one organisation which describes itself as a free penpal matching service, based on a similar premise to the others in that you will be writing to someone who is in need of personal connection, but you will receive a reply and you can build a correspondence relationship with someone to whom it will make a big difference.

I thought I’d start this thread so that people can list and find similar organisations all around the world. If you’d like to reply to this thread with your suggestions, I hope it will be a useful resource for people who would like to give something back and use their fountain pens at the same time! Win-win situation. ❤️

Perhaps one of the moderators can advise me on how to keep this initial post updated beyond the usual editing time limit, to serve as a single reference list in the future.

More Love Letters (absolutely no romantic connotations, just letters of support and compassion, perhaps they should have named this more carefully!)

Organisations which welcome one-off letters “donations” to people who are unwell or for some reason socially isolated or lonely:

Absolutely! ❤️❤️

I am embarrassed to say that I searched and searched and in Portugal I couldn’t find anything. Sad, the sense of citizenship and solidarity we seem to display here. ☹️
