Tell me about Parker IM Monochrome

I handled one the other day and it felt nice in hand but I still have some questions...

I understand that the names like Titanium or Bronze refer to the trim colourways (just as Blue or Burgundy) rather than materials used?

The barrel is made of metal (aluminium? brass?), but what is the grip section made of? The thread looked metal when I unscrewed it but... not sure. (Bonus question: how about the section in Parker Premier?)

Do I remember correctly that some Parkers suffered from the cap not sealing off the nib fully and so causing it to dry prematurely? Is the IM model affected?

Thanks.

I’m pretty sure the IM monochrome series is some sort of coating over brass, but I’m not finding much info about it. Just going by what is true for the rest of the IM line and by the weight of my Monochrome Blue. The section is definitely metal. It seals really well. I had a Penman Sapphire cartridge in it for about 6 months last year with no hard starts. It’s a great pen.

Anytime, now I am also wondering about the Premier- I don’t have one to be able to check. Both of my Ciselé 75s, one early, one late- are plastic.

  • 2 weeks later...

The IM I had (several years ago, might be different pen as I know they made some changes in styling) wrote nicely enough  but had the dry out problem. Not sure if I still have it even.
