And this was how, every time, @LizEF used London Fog, the smell of sulphur filled her nostrils, and she couldn't see the paper because of the fog.

:lticaptd:The Cursed Pen Adventure!  You've just set the back of my brain churning!

@LizEF here's some more material to churn in, before adding the Druid of Mercia :D

I was inspired by something you wrote a few weeks ago to maybe create another character :   "I am Mistress Quills, daughter of the Fifth House of Plume, holder of the Sacred Ink Well, heir to the Holy Blotter of Carene...."

She is the head scribe at the library, in charge of procurement of quills, reeds, brushes and obviously  all types of the inks for the library. As everyone knows, only specific ink / pen/ paper can be used to transcribe certain spells, ;)

Now imagine if one of those quills is one of a specific sphinx.  That's why Makhabesh hates libraries because of  some unethical librarian are always  trying to pluck off a quill or two.

And finallyt what about the ultimate writing instrument: The Lisping Snek, that can transcribe the most dangerous of spells, because of the purity of its heart.

It could give a lot why everyone is afraid/ bullies Essri. The Lisping Seeks could be used to harm..... especially if they are told that the only way to learn to read and write without a lisp (their ultimate goal), is if they are used as writing instruments for a week..... 🙀

Anyway came from ;) hope these ideas are helpful ....

  You have a wonderfully creative mind, my friend!  Thank you!  My imagination will go to work.  Not sure how one uses a snek to write, though...  Dip his tail in ink?  That would require patience... 🐍

With imagination. ;)

Think if you use a rigor spell on a willing Lisping Snek, and dip its tail /or head (depending what TV rating you want to go for) dip it in the extracted essence of a Grand Spotted Rattling Snek, you can turn the poor Snek into a weapon of "destruction" where only his loyalty to Quin and his bond with Makhabesh might save the wizard world from total annihilation.

Off to work imagination :)

  • 5 months later...

I don't care for black inks. In BB perhaps I was spoiled by ESSR.

I know it's supposed to turn black...eventually, after I've turned the page on yesterday or even three days from now..............but not black right out the pen.

I am very disappointed in Tanzanite:angry:, it did not come out blue and change to black eventually like a BB should, it came out black. And it was not near as dry as 4001 BB.

So I had a fat line from an EF flexi nib............... Yes, I've had the bottle for 5-6 years unopened in a dark place. There was a touch of crud to the top, and the cap.  Its bathroom sink bound.

I was testing two Weak Kneed Wet Noodle EF nibs, MB pre'23 Safety Pen and a 1927 Parker Sr Doufold. So I'm not pressing harder on the MB that is writing to an M with Tanzanite than the Parker with Benitoite which has remained EF, until pressed to making my fancy letter, a capital L.

In the meanwhile, I have to find another bone dry, non-black ink for my MB Safety Pen. I will dump that ink that's in it.

Yes, the nib is very flexible, but the Parker wrote EF like the tipping looked, and the EF MB wrote fat, much fatter than I had in mind. Wrote to an M. So the ink made it write real fat.

I am not going to miss it. I'd been cheap, having somewhere, 4001 BB, so had been in no hurry to open it.

Definitely going to have a light color ink for that bottle, so I don't get forgetful. Will tape the ink color on the bottle.

..................

Recommendations for a bone dry ink appreciated.

I think the Edelstein inks are intentionally designed to be wetter than their 4001 counterparts.

 Do you have no FP friends or clubs to whom it could be donated instead?

@InesF has a link to her data on flow here:

It's the best source I know for finding inks based on how wet or dry they are.  I think my driest to date are the Tintenlabor iron galls (though the new versions aren't as dry as the old) and Lennon Tool Bar Sesame Oil (which is so dry that I suspect it couldn't keep up with your flex nib).

AH HA!!!! The Pelikan Hub is coming on October.... I'll take it and give it away there.

Thanks for kick-starting my brain in that direction.

I didn't expect Tanzanite to be as dry as 4001 BB, but had expected it to be at least middle MB dry.

.......................

I only have one FP friend. The first shot is free.  And I'm bringing the lady from our old folks gymnastics along; giving her inks, and started her on papers. Showing her my den/library with a hundred of pens, two, foot high stacks of papers, and more inkwells than you can shake a stick at. She was warned.:ninja:

This ink didn't dance enough to give to her.

She had two or three old broken vintage semi-flex MB's that belonged to her father, that I shipped to Francis for repair. One was an MB 250:thumbup:, without the inborn crack fault...has me looking for one. Both, I've seen since that I had a chance at, were cracked, so no go.

She now has 5 pens.:lticaptd:Ain't it nice when Plan A works. :happyberet:
