Japanese Eyedropper fountain pens

Looking for recommendations for Japanese style eye dropper fountain pens. So far I have found two - Namiki Emperor and Opus 88 (demonstrator and Omar). Are there any other brands you recommend checking out? Thanks

I picked up an Elliott fountain pen (apparently it has a shut off mechanism) at an estate sale a couple of years ago, but so far have not been able to get it fixed.  Can't say whether I'd recommend it or not, but that might be a brand for you to look for.

When I first got it, I thought it was a plunger filler (like some early Sheaffer pens).  OTOH, I only paid three bucks for it.

With a lot of the really old Japanese eyedroppers, you would have to find someone who can replace the shaft seal or else it will leak. A few of mine have been out of the country with one of the people who repairs my pens to have the shaft seals replaced. It might be a little while before I find out if it's successful.

With a new pen, you won't have to worry about this. As far as I'm aware, those two makers are the only really active ones out there. There was also Dani-Trio, but I believe there is some connection between them and the place that makes Opus 88. The Opus 88 pens are very high quality. I have a lot of them.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

On the cheap side, Platinum Preppy's are made in Japan, and people have been using them as eye dropper pens. 🙂

They're referring to something different. "Japanese style eyedropper" refers to the kind with the shutoff valve mechanism to cut ink flow to the nib. This is an old style mechanism and the Japanese way of making a safety pen. Some new pens have this mechanism such as the Namiki Emperor, some Dani Trios, and the Opus 88 pens. Confusing, I know
