Help please - identify this New York Swan

Pen is only 11 cm  capped.  Colour is Scarlet or Tangerine marbled. Imprint reads  Swan Self filling Pen, Mabie Todd & Co New York.

I can't  find this  shape cap  in Steve Hulls' book but maybe just not looking well enough!  No numbers on pen that I can see apart from Patent stuff.IMG_5552.thumb.jpeg.c6307fb9582a97bbe980b1fb622744a0.jpegIMG_5553.thumb.jpeg.cceb1d9036c40fb2c13f79cac31eebd1.jpeg

Lovely little thing.

New York branch will not be in the Hull book.  This is the scarlet color. The tangerine is a bright yellow/orange color.

This model is also not in the Moak book about the American branch of the company.

Shape puts it at the end of the production of the New York Eternal models, some of which had that shape on the top of the cap.

Late 20s to very early 30's in my opinion.

Any numbers on the butt end of the barrel? or around the end of the barrel near the end?

Thanks so much for replying. i was not aware of a Moak book.

Thankyou for confirming the colour.

No numbers - have examined thoroughly.

Also haven’t managed to dismantle pen yet. Do you know if section is likely to be threaded, and if so what direction?

Thankyou.

Looks like a different  pen completely out of the Mabie  concept.

I prefer to look at the NIB in this pen and it is my first impression of any pen. Many Swans has a similar nibs and very rarely  they give some extra pleasure to your writing.

Good luck on this pen.

The shape is typical of the late American Swan pens.

A few Eternals show up with a cap top like this.  Mabie Todd Swan Fountain Pen - Black w Green Band, 14k Eternal #4 Fine Nib (Excellent, Restored) - Peyton Street Pens

The pearl with black vein is often seen in this shape, as is the black with jade bands New York Eternal.  Also a black and red mottled celluloid that looks a bit like mixed hard rubber.

The shape marks the beginning of the end of the New York company

The section will be friction fit. No special construction issues with this pen.

This is the book for reference.

Mabie in America: Writing Instruments from 1843-1941 - David L. Moak: 9781932433906 - AbeBooks

Thank you for the pictures and it is an interesting pen. Need a good CLC and it will be a great writer.

@Greenie thank you for the details in the Marble green NY Mabie pen. I like that nib . It is a " majestic looking " nib. with lot of promises.  I love ITERNAL NIBS . They are semi flex Large nibs. I have two pens with ITERNALs , but little different in appearance. All the Swans have see characteristic  quality.

I am not an expert on these pens, but the OP's pen looks very similar to the one shown on page 169 of the 'Moak book':

Thank you Joss,  indeed  very similar !  I have now ordered this book.  I wonder if  his images are 'true size' ?  In which case I can check my pen against his image.  It is  a 'ladies|'  size  pen, slim as well as  short.  I have some swallows  somewhere, I can check against those also.  When he says 'imprints'  I guess he's describing the  general imprint on the side of the barrel, because  having a  pattern and size code quoted would be really helpful, but there is none on my pen.

Thanks again.  This is my first time of asking FPN for help, and  it's going well - very grateful.

I still haven't opened the pen yet, it's a tight fit and  I am nervous of damaging it, but I will get there !!!
