Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Jinhao Sunny Orange

This is review #314 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Added a tiny bit of distilled water to make up for assumed evaporation. This ink cartridge was a gift from a generous FPNer. Cleaning was very quick and easy.

This ink color just does not want to be captured!  A scan makes it very red.  The pictures make it too dark or not vibrant enough.  It's very bright, just not as bright as Akkerman Oranje Boven...  Sorry, but my images just aren't doing it justice...

Smoke was bound and determined to break into the "studio" while I was recording, adding some strange sounds to our audio track...

Erratum: "...turns you cat into..." should be "...turns your cat into..."

Zoomed in photo (Close, but the paler parts are exaggerated - the shading is more subtle on paper.  This is the closest of all the Rhodia images.)

Screenshot (Text isn't vibrant enough.)

Scan of Completed Review (Closer than the screenshot (once I corrected this), but still off.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (These might actually be the most accurate representation.)

Line width (The "I" in "Ink:". Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 306µm. With 314 inks measured, the average line width is 297µm.)

Microscope image (400x. I fell in to a burnin' ring of fire... Color is darker than reality, but shows the contrast better. Edge of the slip cover. Ink seemed to form in layers and I couldn't focus on all of them, of course...)

Thanks for a sunny review @LizEF  and many thanks to Smoke for adding your soundtrack and not turning orange :D

Poor Quin doesn't seem to have a moment a respite. Not even a family gathering and yet he has to fight off another enemy.

It is synchronistic that we're reviewing both orange inks on the same time. Mine  like most orange inks is slightly below average lubrication. I wonder if professor @InesF has an explanation that why some colours (like orange) are on the low lubrication spectrum 🤔

I love the microscopic image, but I can say, even though I work in an orange room (it's supposed to stimulate creativity), it's not a colour I gravitate towards :D

Thanks for making this grey and cold Tuesday especially bright 🙏🙏🙏

Indeed.  The Voyage Home is almost over, and then we start a new adventure.

Fate?  Halloween?  Autumn?  Heaven knows. :D  My guess would be that either they don't bother adding lubricant and the ingredients themselves lubricate poorly, or they can't add lubricant because of the way it would otherwise impact the ink.  It would be interesting to know, though.

Me, too.  Thought it was really cool-looking.  Not sure I could bring myself to paint a room orange - that's a bold move. :)

It's a bright bold orange, but the ceiling is a dark blue, so it tempers the flame, so to speak :)

Whoooo!  Poor Quin, being made the fall guy.  Even Smoke is whining about it.

The micro looks like a hurried, though dashing, abstract drawing.  I love it.  It could be dendrites.  Maybe. There is at least one emu head in there.

I do not have this Jinhao ink, but I do have a cute little bottle of Jinhao Blue (came with some JinFari pens, and has been named 'Jink.')

Of the comparison inks all I have is one, and I'm hoarding that precious sample of Sailor Keen Mooseecky.  I just got a bottle of Kaweco Sunrise Orange and it's maybe a little similar.

(Sorry, @yazeh, but I love oranges AND orange ink!  Jinhao Sunny Orange reminds me of Tang.  Not that I like Tang…)

@LizEF, thanks again, for making even harried turkey-cookin' Tuesdays magical and fun... I always look forward to the review and story!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

:D Five more Jinhao inks to come - I got a 6-color set.

 Been a long time since I tasted Tang.  I expect never to taste it again before I die (or after, for that matter ;) ).

I know you love orange. And that makes me happy :) It reminds me of Fanta or Orangina :D

Fanta

Yum!  But only outside the US (perhaps outside North America, not sure).  In the US it's orange-colored high fructose corn syrup and disgusting.  Outside the US, it's carbonated orange juice (and other stuff, but still).  I was practically addicted to it in Moscow and shocked to discover how different it was in the US.

The child in me loved, Fanta. But the adult in me can't take any these sweet stuff anymore :D

Depending on the details, the Fanta you get now has high fructose corn syrup and tons more sugar than what you got as a child. After my dad died, my brother discovered a very old box of hot chocolate. It had half the sugar the current stuff from the same brand has.

It's sad to see how Industrials harm their customer with over sugaring :(

Indeed.  Let's hope customer awareness starts to shift the trend back.

Yes, a sunny orange with tendency to form Rings of Fire!  :)

Thank you, @LizEF, for this ink review with story and cross reference to orange cat drawings! What a foreseeing! ;)

Trying to avoid false accusations, I would say: I do not need to buy this ink1!

I'm looking forward how the grey spot develops! Can it be that there is some reference to always changing ink collections? Some of them develop growing grey spots ... 😊

How many days 'till next Wednesday? :)

1) it can be gifted to me :)

One life!

Sure! Less lubricated orange inks (not all of them) make you want to buy another orange ink to compare and to (dis)prove the lubrication theory! :)

You're most welcome!  1) Duly noted.  I wonder if Amazon Austria sells Jinhao ink cartridges....

  • 3 weeks later...

Nice to see an orange ink again. These always manage to lighten the mood and bring some much-needed colour to a dark december day. Thanks for that @LizEF

It’s been ages since I’ve used an orange ink in my pens. Time to take an expedition to the ink stash, and see if I can find one I haven’t used before. I’m sure there’s something in there among the samples.

:D Definitely time to dig up something!  Bright colors make winter better.
