Pure Pens Ink Reviews…Beddgelert

The glass bottles are a bit too tall and thin, so are dangerous when filling.

The inks are made for Pure Pens by Diamine…. like when Diamine makes Akkerman inks to specs. These inks are not archival or waterproof. Mercian was so nice as to telephone the company, seeing he is in the neighborhood for that info.

Pure Inks said they were looking for inks that are a bit out of mainstream normal colors. These so appear. I will do three more inks later.

I was given advice to use a normal copy paper in many folks don’t have good to better paper like Clairefontaine Triomphe 90g or Rhoda 80g.

I had written about how poor I found a certain HP paper, and for some inks this Cannon, Black Label Premium 80g was surprisingly good, but not for Pure Inks.

I don’t have a glass dip nib…and my dip pens don’t seem to want to work well enough to dip some other ink. I have too many pens to out, over 35, to start dipping clean pens in ink bottles to see what colors are near.

Wrong paper listed is Clairefontaine Triomphe image.png.fd01932852961e75ef797919ebca58f0.pngI don’t I I don't do dark brown inks much, so Beddgelert…is not like Diamine Chocolate brown which I tried to dip pen match. Won’t use that ink. Shades too little, even on CT.

Wow, that's very dark.  Looks black except where you smeared it.  I like the smeared color though.  Perhaps a dry stub would do the trick. :D   Or dilution...

Apparently a village in Wales.  I'm just going to assume there's some really dark brown dirt there, or something...

Thanks for this one too, @Bo Bo Olson!

Beddgelert is largely famous because of the story of the faithful dog, Gelert ...

The story goes that in the thirteenth-century, Prince Llywelyn the Great had a palace at Beddgelert in Caernarvonshire, and as the Prince was a keen hunter, he spent much of his time in the surrounding countryside. He had many hunting dogs, but one day when he summoned them as usual with his horn, his favourite dog Gelert didn’t appear, so regretfully Llywelyn had to go hunting without him.

When Llywelyn returned from the hunt, he was greeted by Gelert who came bounding towards him …his jaws dripping with blood.

The Prince was appalled, and a horrible thought came into his mind …was the blood on the dog’s muzzle that of his one-year old son?  His worst fears were realised when he saw in the child’s nursery, an upturned cradle, and walls spattered with blood! He searched for the child but there was no sign of him. Llywelyn was convinced that his favourite hound had killed his son.

Mad with grief he took his sword and plunged it into Gelert’s heart.

As the dog howled in his death agony, Llywelyn heard a child’s cry coming from underneath the upturned cradle. It was his son, unharmed!

Beside the child was an enormous wolf, dead, killed by the brave Gelert.

In the village you can visit the brave dog's grave (sob)

So by rights, the ink should be blood red. Either that or Gelert was a quick brown dog.

:crybaby::(  Why does everyone other than Americans only write tragedy?  All our stories have happy endings!!

"Gelert, in doggy heaven, forgave the prince and came bounding to greet him upon the prince's death.  The child learned a valuable lesson and never judged hastily."  There, fixed it for you. ;)

Thanks, John! :)

This ink looks so much better on the Triomphe than the Canon.  I wonder what an italic nib would do with it.

I hope you’re able to recover your files, @Bo Bo Olson!

It will be fun to see these inks in various types of nibs.

It would be interesting to see this ink as a side by side with Diamine Macassar (which is a very dark brown).

Thank you... I never made it to Wales on my two trips around England and mostly Scotland. It's amazing how little one can really see in just two weeks.

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

      >Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color,<   I'm sure they were, and my answer assumes that. It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. It is a specific film that produces transparencies, or slides, by a process not used for any other film. There are other color trans

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
