Platinum President

My new Platinum President was just delivered and it was quite fun to unbox my new pen. It looks remarkably similar,  in fact shockingly similar,  to my Sailor 1911L. I will actually need to look closely enough to see the stamped name to know the difference.  Very intriguing.

Interesting.  I only have low-end Platinum pens (some Preppies that were freebies with four oz. bottles of Noodler's ink a number of years ago -- this was before Noodler's brought out the Charlie eyedropper pens); and one Plaisir I got early on (back when they sold them with the coated nibs to match the barrel & cap color).   When I got the Plaisir, I found that the very wide cap band was really cheesy looking in person.  But what was WORSE was that after a while the coating on the nib started to flake off and I was really worried about the possible contamination with the ink in the bottles (I gather that Platinum has stopped making those coated nibs).

As much as I like my Sailor pens, and the 3776 Century is very nice, the President's nib is really good looking.

I got mine used, a little beat up; in my hand it's a very distinguished pen, bigger than I thought, with a particularly smooth M nib, probably polished by a previous owner. Fuyu Gaki looks great with this pen.

Yes, the President is an underappreciated pen.  Platinum has brought out so many new, different stunning pens that the President, kind of unassuming, has lost its status as the flagship pen of the company.  But it is a really good pen and is a wonderful writer.

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "F" nib running Birmingham Firebox

Sailor Princess Kayuga "MF" nib running Noodler's Black Swans in Australian Roses

Delta Reservoir "EF" nib running Colorverse Mariner

Opus 88 Minty Year of the Snake "F" niub running Birmingham Sugar Kelp

I do like the 3776 pens, especially the Laurel Green and the Black Diamond, but the President has an understated elegance about it that I really find appealing.

I've always found it really strange that the President nib is shorter than the #3776 nib. On the plus side, it's by far the most unique triple broad nib I own and one I'll never get rid of; it gets used every day. It has feedback(which is already rare for wider nibs) that I would genuinely describe as a pencil with a lead that's on the softer side, no matter the lubrication of the ink or coating/sizing of the paper used. By comparison, a Sailor Zoom nib ranges from sandpaper to a stick of butter depending on the ink and paper, much more inconsistent and harsher. I'm guessing I got a unicorn nib though, I've only ever used one President coarse nib.

Yeah my Sailor 1911L nib has a good amount of feedback similar to what you describe as a pencil. It's a medium,  which was a bit of a shock.  I would expect it more from an EF.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
