Banju Star Shark

The first time I ordered this pen, the AliExpress vendor sent it loosely wrapped in a paper envelope, so someone just used the pointy end of the pen itself to poke a hole and remove it before the envelope was delivered—or so I infer. Full refund and I reordered the pen elsewhere at a slightly lower price. It arrived yesterday and I do like the sculptural shape and interesting texture. I wrote about it on Reddit so I won’t go on here except to mention that the small Banju branded nib (EF) was surprisingly smooth and gives that little bit of bounce, something short of semi-flex but providing a pleasant feel and a tiny bit of flare, depending on pressure. Major con is the smooth under-sized section, although gripping it at the thread didn’t bother me for the short while I have tested it.

It also comes in textured green, a smooth matte silver, and smooth matte black. Oh I did forget one very significant point: that angular projection isn’t a clip, as I had assumed (I figured it was probably not functional but a failed attempt at a Lamy-style clip), but instead a roll stopper! Rather important point for anyone interested.large.IMG_0294.jpeg.dc8371f35e63af44e73bc7562ef88f0c.jpeg

I also ordered this pen, thanks to the heads up from Dan Carmell.  Same version he purchased.  I don't mind the grip section, in fact I don't mind anything about this pen.  I like the rough feel of the body/cap and I agree that it is a semi-bouncy nib, smooth enough and wet.

Two nits.  The only ordering option was an EF nib, but I received F.  And this came without a converter or cartridge.  And while I was able to use a Hongdian converter, it was semi-too thick for the barrel of this pen.  It stays in place, but when I unscrew the grip it wants to remain in the pen.

@Dan Carmell Interesting.  Glad you did the addendum on the original post, because my comment otherwise would have been along the lines of "That's a very odd looking clip...."

ETA: Not sure the pen is actually speaking to me -- but that's okay.  I like the fact that this is a hobby where not everyone is going after the same thing....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I’d be vexed to get a F instead of an EF, especially as the EF is within an acceptable range of fine-ness, but the F probably would not. I’d ask for a partial refund, AliExpress is pretty liberal about that for clear errors by the seller.

I picked up the pen after I read your post and although it’s been a week plus since I’ve used it, it wrote immediately.

My take on the not-clip from the photos was that it was probably an imitation of one of those clever Lamy clips that might not work properly. Well, I was right about the latter even though it’s not a clip at all!

Still miss ours.  Currently ruled by a Goldendoodle.

Oh doodles are incredible dogs and non-shedders too, didn’t fully appreciate that until I got a dog that sheds normally!

I do wish Ollie was more of a snuggler though 😂 large.IMG_0428.jpeg.478b22f75bf4dd97148a31c1bdc0d928.jpeg😂

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
