Inks That Get Noticed

Uncial

Recommended Posts

For the most part, most people don't pay a great deal of attention to ink colours in a note, letter or card. Maybe due to my tendency to use blue a lot for such things, but now and again I'll break out something different. I went through a phase of using Monteverde Canyon Rust in repeated fills. For some reason the ink got a lot of attention and garnered many positive comments. It is a lovely ink, but I didnt think it was spectacular, yet it was very much noticed and noted by others. Have you had any inks you used commented on by others ; particularly non fp users?

Waterman Havana Brown. Always get a lot of comments about this ink.

Binder Blurple. Equal parts Waterman Florida Blue and Waterman Purple. I LOVE this color.

I’m very partial to turquoise inks. They always get noticed. This summer I’ve been using a pen with Pelikan Edelstein Golden Lapis and getting compliments on it.

D's Eclipse. I always hear people saying "Is that really black, or just my imagination that there's something else in it?"

I am very partial to turquoise too and it often gets noticed, sometimes negatively. I was told to stop using it for work purposes  ._.

That’s rather miserable, @Uncial. I’m sorry. Have you tried a dark teal?

I use a dark sepia that they think is black. The issue is to do with permanence, but both inks had that quality. I think they were just turquoise haters. Too much happiness on a page.

Their loss, you’re right- it’s happiness on a page, what a lovely saying you came up with! What permanent turquoise ink were you using?

I can't be certain which one it was, but it was either a turquoise that came as a powder (vintage ink from an exchange with Amber) or the last dribbles of an old bottle of Quink I had. Ive used the Noodler's Navajo and I think it might be permanent, but don't think I've ever used that one for work purposes. There aren't many permanent turquoises out there as far as I know.

Reminded me of Legal Lapis

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Those ink tablets are intriguing, I saw some for sale somewhat recently- I should look for turquoise.  I think there may be about 4-5 permanent turquoise inks out there, even in this golden age of colors. I liked old Parker Blue-Black because it had teal elements.

I'm currently using Caran D'Ache's Hypnotic Turquoise.  It's a strong and rich shade.

I’m also using Hypnotic Turquoise, @SamCapote! I had it in my MB Mozart Mini, then put it in my Osmiroid (I forget the model number) Copperplate nib to test it after it was repaired by a pen friend. It’s beautiful. 😍

It always brings back memories of Peacock Blue.  Interesting that there are no good reviews of Shaeffer's Peacock Blue.  One has a broken image, and other is badly yellow color.  Maybe I'll get my bottles out and do a review.

My Quink Blue/Black from 2020 does too.
And I am reliably informed that the current version also does…

I now usually refer to the ink as ‘Parker Quink Blue-Teal‘ 😉

I bought the new one, but it doesn’t seem the same to me. I will have another look when I run through all of these turquoise and blue inked pens I have going now. It could be nostalgia tinting my vision.

Please do! I find reviewing intimidating.

Ah, perhaps it’s only the post-fading colour that has retained the propensity to turn teal, and the greenish hue isn’t really evident in the ink’s initial colour? 🤷‍♂️

That’s definitely a possibility. I’ll track down the swatch and my ink journal entry and see what they look like now after some time on the page.

@Penguincollector you are already halfway to reviewing with your pens/inks/paper posts.

@USG calls some of my writing samples Mini Reviews. I’d say start there. Write the pen, nib size, ink color, paper brand.  Then give an impression of how you like the ink color.
