Asvine and Hongdian

It is a big mess:

Qiuming Li says she is the owner of esybuy: https://www.facebook.com/qiuming.li.3154/

Asvine also seems to claim to be "esybuy": https://www.facebook.com/asvinepen/

The address of Asvine corresponds to an apartment complex, not a production site: Google Maps

Let's see if I get an answer from Asvine.

Li Qiuming owns online shop called Esybuy, dealing with all overseas orders of some Chinese makers.

Li Qiuming owns his own brand, Asvine. And the story of Mr.Li ends here. I believe he is also a frequent visitor to this forum but not speak, as he is a trafficker not an enthusiast.

Currently, there are three independent pen makers/brands in China: Hxx, Jxx and Hxx. They are able to manufacture a pen 100% inhouse.

The rest makers are "brand+design house", they rely 100% on unaffiliated plants to complete a pen, OEM plants, if you prefer a fancy jargon.

Bear in mind, fake MB are also manufactured in such OEM plants. Shared threads, interchangeable parts are therefore very common among certain brands nowadays.

I do not affiliate with any of the names above. I also believe here is the best level of disclosure I could do in public, as an enthusiast.

  • Some sources suggest that Moonman/Majohn is one of several brands manufactured by a large Shanghai-based pen company, Shanghai Jingdian.

The main seller of Majohn on Alibaba is, I believe, Shanghai Shanyin Trading Company Limited. Unsure if that is related to Shanghai Jingdian, a front for them, or if they are simply a trader for them.  They also sell Hero, Delike and PenBBS, but are not the producers of any of those brands (of course).

When I asked the company via DM, they stated that they manufacture Majohn/Moonman. Obviously they do not make PenBBS or Hero but said they are the "general agent" for both, I assume this means they are a reseller, at least for those specific brands. They also have a statement clarifying the Majohn/Moonman name change on their account.

Again, this is going only on an Alibaba listing. But that is who is selling them.

Edit: someone on reddit also made that connection.

Also hi, I registered this account because I am also trying to untangle this.  If there has been any updates in untangling who owns Hong Dian aside from what has been said in the thread, I'd love to know.

"Confirmed Hongdian: http://www.winwinsky.com/index.asp

"For Majohn, the closest I can get is a company established in 2018 in Shanghai, 上海末匠商贸有限公司.

That's what is listed as the producer on their flagship Tmall storepage, but the business information has them as a seller of products, not a manufacturer.

problem with PENBBS

In my case: two pens - two cracked sections after a very short time - and no answer from their "customer-service".

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
