2mm Fixpencil disassembly?

Recommended Posts

I have a Caran d'Ache fixpencil 22 (black) which takes 2mm lead. Can it be disassembled? I have tried to unscrew the lead prongs after extending them, but gave up to avoid bending them.

I am hoping to remedy the clink sound it makes when it is put down on my desk. Otherwise it is an enjoyable writer used regularly.

Er... what is the difference between a "22" and "2"?

I have a "Fixpencil 2", and that can be disassembled

the way that you describe it.

I wonder what says "clink" when you put it down... Could

the lead inside be broken, perhaps?

Have fun!

Thanks Claes. Your comment gave me the confidence to forge ahead. I was able to successfully carry out the desired disassembly.

It also helped to leave the lead in the pencil as I unscrewed the prongs, to avoid bending them.

Here, in the far east, it is marketed as 22 (as opposed to the colorful 884). Mine was purchased last year. The sound came from the inner plastic (yes it is plastic) sleeve which has a wide part just below the button/sharpener. That is slightly narrower than the body of the pencil. When there is horizontal impact, the inner part strikes the outer metal body, creating the sound.

I put some tape around the inner part, which has resolved my original issue. Yay!

Good morning, @bizhe

Ah, I am glad you solved the problem!

Inner tube made of plastic, eh? Hm. 🙂

Have fun!

Thanks again. Yes, plastic. Possibly a budget decision by the makers.

Having said that, I do notice that the fixpencil, when using the same lead, gives a slightly smoother writing feel than my fc tk9400, which has a metal sleeve.
