Fountain Pen Hospital Screw-Up

Last evening I purchased a Pelikan Concerto from Fountain Pen Hospital for $895. I was really excited, because I have been wanting this pen for years.

Well, just now I received an e-mail from Fountain Pen Hospital, saying:

"We will be unable to fulfill the order for this backroom item, due to a double purchase. The order will be cancelled and a refund will be issued. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Have any of you experienced such a thing from them before? I find it highly unsatisfying, and somewhat difficult to comprehend since their web shop removes items immediately when they are purchased.

Just glad I didn't have time today to order a new, cursive italic nib for it from FPNibs. That would have been a waste.

That's a shame and I'm sorry to hear that happened to you.

You did cause me to go check out the current back room listings, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the back room listing has been completely overhauled.  I don't care so much about whether it feels modern, but it's certainly nice that they have all the in-stock items at the top.  It used to be many pages of scrolling through mostly out of stock items to find what was in.  And filtering by brand!  So it looks to me like the new owners are trying to improve things, but as you've experienced still have some kinks to work out.

Apparently not, or not yet.  But hopefully the new system has the ability to do that, whereas the old system looked like it depended on the best effort of somebody to manually update it.

On the barrel of the Pelikan Concerto is a carved engraving of notes from the fourth movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. However, this doesn't make any sense, because a concerto is for a solo instrument with orchestral accompaniment. A symphony, in contrast, is written for the full orchestra, with no particular focus on a soloist. As a lover of classical music, I cannot bear the thought of purchasing such an egrogiously named pen, especially given its cost. It isn't even like the name 'Pelikan Symphony' would be any worse. I just don't think they cared enough to name it appropriately.

I hope that this has helped you see the pen in a slightly different light, and perhaps dull the feeling of loss a little. Then again, what's in a name? :)

That's good to know. I haven't had good experiences with The Pen Family items ordered.

I appreciate the effort to console me! ☺️
