Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Sailor Kin-mokusei

This is review #284 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This is a nice, cheery orange that is neither "in your face" nor burnt, nor pastel. I don't think there's sheen, but there is a sort of glittery look when the page is angled to the light. Perhaps a big wet nib would sheen... It does dry a little fast on the nib, so long pauses should be avoided.

Cleaning was quick and easy with plain water.

Zoomed in photo (Color is not quite right, but I'm having a hard time describing how.)

Screenshot (Not quite the right color, also seems a little muted / dull compared to reality.)

Scan of Completed Review (Text is a little too dark.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (AP: Ink is darker in real life. CP: Very close to what I see on the paper.)

Line width (The "I" in "Ink:". Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 300µm. With 284 inks measured, the average line width is 296µm.) (This may well give the best idea as to color, also, the sheeny/glittery bits can be seen here and there.)

Microscope image (100x. Random pink dots floating in orange and yellow. I think those brighter yellow dots might be the "glittery" sheen-like thing I see.)

Fabulous review @LizEF 👍This is nice, lovely, happy orange. 😊

It's funny how the colour changes the mood of the story despite a ratty tree rat of a spy working for the big ratty wizard.  I love it when you manage to have all characters active in your weekly installment. It gives weight/ presence to all characters. Looking forward to next week. 🙏🙏🙏

:) Thanks! I don't always manage it, but I try to include all of them as much as possible.

It's  doable. All you need to do is to see them all in the frame. How can all three advance the story 🙂

I guess sometimes other things seem more important to include in my 100 words... :)

Ooo, a microcircuit city with pink accents!

And I have a sample vial of Kin Mouseki. Next time I need an orange ink, out it comes, to see whether the gold somethings are visible there.

Love the story. Makhabesh and Essri turn gumshoe. Thanks, @LizEF, for the Tuesday Treat!

(There are green squirrels in Africa. Appropriately, they have orange bellies.)

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Great review, Liz!  This was the ink that made me like orange. I tend to have it in my rotation. It’s one if the inks that has the sheen outline on Cosmo and Iroful. I’ve often wondered why, and now I see! I wonder what that ingredient is and what other inks use it.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 30 currently inked pens:

Parker Duofold Centennial IM, RO Rose Gold Antiqua

Parker Duofold Lady needlepoint, MB Cool Grey

MontBlanc 1441 F, Monteverde Brown Sugar

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Cool!  His fur does look sort of greenish (image from wikipedia):

Meanwhile, look at those beady eyes, that smirk, the side-ways glance.  He's clearly up to something!

Ah, mine was Akkerman Oranje Boven - it was so "in your face"! :D  (And it also made me think, "orange cow" (bovine).)

Oh, hooray, it's not me! :D  Clearly I should have used it on Iroful - my sample was very small and I didn't dare use any of it anywhere except for review purposes.  (It's all gone now!)  Thanks for sharing your experience.  If I ever get more, I'll be sure to use it on Iroful - a sheen outline is very cool!

It’s $13 and one day delivery right now on Amazon Prime if you’re a member. The ink selection on Prime is pretty good if you’re not. I think it pays for itself  pretty quickly. I’m happy to send you samples if you’d like some!

Thanks, Penguincollector.  I have so many samples that it'll be three years before I want any more!  But I sincerely appreciate it!

Anytime! I have many EF nibs, and enjoy your reviews. Should you ever need a particular ink for them, let me know and I’ll check my stash.

Killer squirrels? 🐿️ Killer squirrels! 😱

Thank you, @LizEF, for the always entertaining story parts and for never getting tired of ink reviews!

My first Orange Love was Kaweco Sunrise Orange and even that didn't appeal to me at the very beginning. It was not before I used it in the extremely wet Pineider LaGrande Bellezza.

My take home message: do not give up too early.

I'm looking forward to the further development of the story! You drew my attention very much towards the squirrel! :) 🐿️ :)

One life!
