I have so many 'dry' comments...about a place I've seen a few times closer than most, and have a war story about. The Labrador Current is -2 C or 28F. There was a time when I thought very serious about that.

There are times when Thule AF base is further away than wished.

Yes, Denmark started late into socialism; so everyone pays a 50% tax, but don't lose a cent when they retire. Still get their full pay.  :yikes:

Full medical coverage before and after retirement. Pretty good for a country that only exports cheese.

A swap for Wisconsin sounds even.

On second thought, Denmark would lose on that.

Wasn't that the base that the US abandoned in the 60s due to the high cost? I guess now that the ice layer is receding, things look different. Thank god for the 'nonexistent' climate change.

Anyway... let's leave it at that, lest we breach forum rules, shall we? 🙂

No, that one was secret.

Thule was there in the '70's and still there now. Air Sea Rescue was/is based there...an hour away from going in.

Labrador current = 3 minutes without a poppie suit, 15 minutes in a poppie suit, 45 minutes in a one-man raft.

One of the prettiest sights in the world is; the yellow rotten ice on the shore of Labrador, that looks like a giant peed on it.

Then, if one survived the landing, one would only lose the tip of a nose or a toe....

The way I was dolled up in Arctic gear, not that either.

@boilermaker1975, your Retro 51s are really neat!

@Misfit, that houndstooth pattern and the grey is very elegant. I love the CM nib!

That's the same color as my second Pilot Metropolitan.  But I just have a 1 mm stub on mine.

As colors go, grey ranks near the bottom of my favorites.  I knew I had a few grey pens, but when I looked. I  was surprised to realize that I have more than I thought.  I guess grey is not that bad a color after all!  Here they are top to bottom:

IMO there are 8 different gray Esterbrooks...I had five.

I came up with some nifty color names for them, but someone over in that section said I couldn't do that, so I sold them. Along with 3 of the five greens, and so on.

Leaving me with a blue SJ, and a DJ Copper.

These are lovely! Parkers are my favorite ❤️. That T-1 is so sleek, the WASP is gorgeous, and I absolutely love the grey stripes on the Balance. I keep meaning to pick up a grey Esterbrook, I love the look of them, regardless of pattern.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
