I already did silver, and this 1930's Mercedes (made in Heidelberg, warehouse in my village.) The man had worked in MB, and has nothing to do with the car, except class transfer hopes.) will get a close up...some day. The Handie is my wife's toy, so I have to twist her arm.

The Mercedes is the second pen from the left, and is much grayer than it looks.

(So far only the Firedance Sonnet has been inked.) Picked up on Tuesday.

What color that aged hard rubber ends up, will more than likely not be done.

I have a BCHR Mercedes with a great OM nib. A Maxi, if I remember correctly. I left the finial and piston cap the very faded Army camouflage green-brown, that hard rubber turns into occasionally.

I see what you mean about difficulty in capturing the colour correctly - to my eyes, that picture makes the pen look more like the 2018 LE 'All Black' Safari than it does the brownish-grey continuous-production 'Charcoal'/'Umbra' pen:

 

The colour isn't quite right on my picture either - I used an old(-ish) phone to take this, under a fluorescent strip-light, on an old towel.
Hardly 'ideal' conditions for attaining photographic 'verisimilitude'

Anyway, the one at the top is my 'All Black' Safari.

The one underneath it is my 'Charcoal'/'Umbra' pen.

 

I would be interested to see one of the 2024 'Steel Black' Safaris next to the two models that I have, just to see if my ageing eyes can tell any difference between them

Here is another picture from today as it sits on my gray planner on my desk at work under LED lights.  Seems to show the color a bit better.

And I finally got around to take family pictures of my grey pens. I won´t include those that have already been defined as "silver" pens and are featured in the Silver and Gold thread. I did include some pens that have or look like mother of pearl because I didn´t know where else to include them.

Yes, they are. 😁

The brownish grey one is from around 1938, the dark grey one is a special editon from 2012, so they are separated by 74 years. I consider this a grandparent - grandchild picture. 😉

Sonnenecken made a '50's 111 Extra in lizard (best pen made in the '50-60's), but I wanted in in certain ones of the six herringbone ones.....and never came near to getting it.

 

After only 6 months, the money burnt a hole in my pocket. And I was followed home by a flock of Pelikans. Not a lizard Pelikan which I didn't know about, but there was a 500 in the new flock along with anything else that was up that night.

 

I got rid of the money in half a night, to get that flock. Hole burning money has that to its aspects.
