Crocheted pen cases

Hello! Do you feel like you have too much time on your hands? Do you find yourself wishing you had another rabbit hole to jump down, head-first?

Well, look no further than crocheting!

I’ve only been crocheting for about six months, but even with limited experience there are so many things you can make. I started with stuffed animals, balls, and stuff for the kids and moved into, you guessed it, pen accessories.

I was inspired by a Reddit post about crochet pen sleeves, and modified the pattern to make these:

The most practical pen case for me is a two-pen sleeve, since I carry two pens into work in my backpack. The prototype green and black case is a little larger, can hold some bigger pens (Duofold, TWSBI ECO, etc). The smaller tan case is great for middle to small pens (think 51s or MB 144).

did I mention I was new to crocheting? That push button on the last case is wayyy off center. Ugh. Gonna have to make another one I guess.

the green and white one is going to be a single pen sleeve.

Any other crochet folks out there? Have you made anything for your pen hobby? @AmandaW

I saw the crochet pen case  @cossar posted a few weeks ago and it was very timely because I had recently found my old yarn bag and was already re-learning after a gap of 40+ years. Very, very rusty.

My first one was a 2 pen case following the basic instructions to make about 18 chains and then crochet until it's 2.3 times the length of the pens. Toward the end I modified it: reducing by one stitch each end of the row to create a blunt triangle, then chained 6 to make a little catch to go over a button as a closure.

It's a bit wonky along the edges, but works.

I'm now finishing off a 3 pen case. Straight edges on this one! Ready to sew the pockets.

Since I'm highly allergic to anything to do with sheep or goats I have to choose yarns that not those. For these two I've used 100% cotton which actually works very well for the purpose because the fabric feels a little slippery.

Lots of fun. And, for me, a welcome diversion from perusing online shopping...

Will work for pens...

I hid the seams by sewing with a light grey cotton sewing thread (instead of the crochet yarn) and pulling the stitches quite snug into the crochet.

I don't think it's conventional, but my first attempt using the thicker crochet yarn looked pretty bad and the sewing thread happened to be laying around.

Will work for pens...
