eBay surprise: "Rare Giant...Red Parker"

Despite them being unaware that a confirmed member pays from a savings account an not on a credit card and, therefore, there will be no fees, I did find there answer acceptable. Notice they are even still taking Paypal, albeit from U.S. accounts only. I don't know why or how it can be abused, but I have heard of some overseas (to the US) Paypal transfers having problems, and maybe this is why they did this.

Well, hope this helps interested parties and believe me, I'm jealous of whoever wins this pen!

Cheers,

Devin

Devin,

If the seller has a paypal account that accepts credit cards (a merchant account) they will pay the fee whether the buyer transfers from their savings account or pays by credit card... it does not matter. So the seller was correct in his statement to you...

Thanks, Tom. I was not aware of this. I have an account that accepts credit cards when I sell stuff, and when I just sold a few watches a few months back, I did not have to pay the fee for cash transactions. I had two watches in particular that sold for well over $1,000 each, and one member paid with his credit card (I got the fee) and another did not (no fee). Was I just lucky (maybe they were having a promotion, or something) or do I have a different type of account and I'm still not aware of something?

BTW, Tom - I really missed you at the show. I had a great time and truly enjoyed meeting the people that I've been talking to the last few months. Maybe I can make the trek to Hagerstown in the coming days. I'll PM you. My wife leave Tuesday with the kids for her parent's house. I'm following a few days later, so I'll be a bachelor for a few days. If you have the time, and I can make it, maybe I can get out your way.

Tom - I just verified that I have a "Premier" and not a "Merchant" account. I'm no expert at Paypay, but if I was allowed to accept a credit card payment, what advantage would it be to have a merchant account?

Since this conversation has gone off topic (and there is always the possibility that I am wrong), feel free to PM me or just wait until I call you again to discuss.

Best,

Devin

Well that Big Red Eyedropper sold for over five grand. I have no insight but the seller seems sincere. What a very nice pen. Too bad I'm too cheap to go for the high stakes pens.
