Delta Pens

Hi Everyone

Was at my local pen specialist yesterday with the intention of adding a Montegrappa to my collection!

However, while looking in the store window I saw they had a display of Delta 'Dolce Vita' pens which I had not seen before. The bright orange barrel really caught my attention so they kindly agreed to let me try it. (I have een trying to add a bot of colour to my collection).

I was impressed at how comfortable the pen felt and when I wrote with it I was really amazed at how smooth it was to write with, it was an absolute joy!!

Needless to say I left with the Delta (1k) FP, but will be going back in a couple of weeks for the Montegrappa.

Kind regards to all

HI Congrats on the new pen. I have a DDV OS and it is wonderfully smooth and a joy to write with. Just curious, does the converter screw in or push in? I ask because I could not get my converter out when I bought my pen and I called the Delta distributor in the US and he said some had screw ins and some had push ins. JC

I have 2 of the Delta Dolce Vita OS, and a coupe of other Delta pens. I have really been impressed by the quality of the pens. I'd like to get a Delta pen from the Animal Series, and may be one of the Alfa Romeo pens.

I have several and I love my Dolce oversized especially. I only had one minor problem with one Delta and that was corrected by a nib adjustment. B.

I have the Delta Dolce Vita Soiree Mini FP. It takes turns with my Pelikan 300 residing in the penholder of my Montblanc Mozart Notepad.

The workmanship is excellent and the style suites my taste.

The FP writes well with a range of inks, including Noodler's Manhattan Black, Pelikan Brilliant Green, Montblanc Black and Waterman's Florida Blue. I'm experimenting a lot. When I first purchased it, there were problems with ink clogging the pen, but power flushing the nib with a large eyedropper appears to have permanently eliminated that problem.

There was one major problem. After a few months of use, the pen broke in half at the orange band near the bottom of the barrel. The Fountain Pen Hospital told me to send it to the Yafa Pen Company (the U.S. distributer), who apparently sent it to Delta, in Italy. The pen was still under warranty, so the only charge to me was for shipping to and from Yafa. That was eighteen months ago and the pen has held up well since that time.

I also have a Dolce Vita O/S, two 365's (if I even remember what the model name is!) and four LE's. I have been very pleased with my Deltas as they have performed flawlessly out of the box and for a number of years. I am seriously into italic and stub nibs, but all my deltas have M nibs. The nibs are so smooth and enjoyable as they are that I have refused to customize them. I cannot say that about many other pens I own. I am currently lusting after a Dolce Vita Soiree medium FP and when (not if) I get one I will get it with a M nib. I hope you enjoy your Delta as much as I have enjoyed mine.

How many out there have the Delta Mini trend.

I got mine in Lucca, Italy and it is a great little daily pen. great Starter with nice flow and smooth as glass nib.

Any one else out there with one or the Y2k trend?

Delta pens are good quality items. The nibs are Bock, so very smooth, and the build quality of the pens is pretty good as well. The only thing I don't like (and this is personal) is the orange colour of the barrel; it's just a little too garish for my liking. Delta should have done like Conway Stewart and offered the pen in several different colours, rather than just one.

Nobody will buy them. It's the orange colour that attracts people, and of course that smooth nib.

I sadly, do not have a Dolce Vita. I fell in love with one at the local pen store but couldn't afford it. The black/orange thing was really getting to me so I filled my 149 with J. Herbin Orange Indien ink. Now I have a black and orange pen!

This thread has got me excited. The Delta Dolce Vita OS has been on my list for a long time, and I should be placing and order for it at the end of this month.

I was once cured of the evil curse of purchasing new fountains pens when I bought my Delta Lugdunum several years ago. It was such a great writer and felt so good in my hand that I boxed all my other pens up (there were only four of them -- OMAS and Pelikans) and only used the Lugdunum.

Well, that cure lasted about five years. What happened? You might ask. Well, I found you good folks at FPN. Evil tempters you are.

Thanks for all the comments.

I love using my Delta 'Dolce Vita' FP it's so smooth (like writing on glass) and the quality seems excellent.

Kind regards

Thats right B. I too don't like the orange color. Sth like a good green or lapis blue would do a good job. Besides, IMO the barrel ring looks a bit ornamental. The pen is a great writer tho'.

I've had a mini "Vita" (fine nib) for a few months and love it--the nib is "chewy" against paper (best description I can come up with--maybe this is what some call feedback--?). I really like the flow (on the wet side). I keep it filled it with PR Orange Crush.

But back to the "chewy" sensation--I was surprised so many of you referred to it as a smooth writer. I'm wondering if I should have the nib tweaked.

As the thread started with a discussion of Montegrappa and Delta, I'll add that my one Montegrappa (Micra) is so smooth, it almost slides off the page. Compared to the chewy Delta nib (which I can hear as I write), the Montegrappa is utterly silent.

It sounds like a tweak might be in order, coco. Sometimes the small nibs, especially in EF or F can be a little rough. I think the mini nibs are quite small. My Deltas all have larger nibs with M points and they are the definition of smooth.

As long as the ink flow suits you, you could try the brown paper bag method yourself to see if you get results.

IZZY, thanks for checking that out. I seems odd to me that they would make some screw in and some plug in, but oh well.

Coco, if the Chewwy factor does not bother you then ok, but I have used three Delta fine nibs and none were toothy/chewy. Could it be the paper? IT could also be that the flow is on the dry side? Have you tried different inks or rinsing out the pen with room temp water?

I have tried a dolce vita but the nib was less smooth than my omas pargaon arte italiana nib and the fact that it wasn't a piston filler has made me not to to buy it. The color of the pen is not really sober. It is not a pen for me.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
