Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Lamy Green

This is review #263 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This is a boring green green, like the green crayon.  Cleaning was easy with just plain water, but plan a few extra flushes, it's quite concentrated.  This was a cartridge.  The line width surprised me.  It didn't seem that wide on the page and I can usually tell when an ink writes fatter.  Perhaps my pen is writing wider anymore...

Zoomed in photo (Very close.  A little too pale, possibly a little too blue.)

Screenshot (The ink color is a little too unsaturated (not bright enough).  It might also be a little too blue.)

Scan of Completed Review (Text might be a little too light and yellow, but is very close to what I see.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are fairly accurate.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 328µm. With 263 inks measured, the average line width is 296µm.)

Microscope image (400x. Smart phone camera. The whole slide was like this: spiky blues, boxy yellows, and lacy greens.)

Excellent review for a forgettable ink 👍 @LizEF. I had a chuckle reading the line not plant green, green. 😜

When we think the story will wrap up you just keep us on the edge, bravo 😊

Thanks for making our Tuesdays so exciting 🙏

:D  Well, ya know, some greens look like the greens you see on plants, and some look more like gemstones, and some look like green crayon...

Seeing what I see?

1. A green ink that does NOT appeal to me!

2. A micro that must be the work of Quin's staff-Orb.

3. A true nail-biter of a story.

Thanks so much, @LizEF, for all three, and for brightening a ZeroDarkThirty Tuesday.  👍🏻

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

@LizEF -- Thanks as usual for the stellar review.

This is definitely an ink I can pass on (and I thought Lamy Blue was boring!).  I much prefer greens that lean a little (but not too much) to the yellow end of the spectrum, or greens that are very dark, or both.

As usual, caught up in the story, biting my nails until next Tuesday!  I like that this green is actually green, as so many of the classic ink brands lean teal. I don’t mind it at all. Great review, Liz.  The micro looks like a Modernist painting of sorts to me.

Or at least lean in some direction.  This one just plops down at "green" and doesn't move. :)

Well, I'm not a big fan of green-leaning teals (or blue-leaning greens), so yes, this is better than that.  Glad you like the color - it was feeling lonely and wanted a friend. ;)

Thank you for that review! Looks like I'm in the minority that likes that green. It's just green, not teal, not mossy, not too dark, but legible enough, and there is no doubt on the color.

I think I like it because it reminds me of school and green Reynolds ballpoints... And just like that, I could totally see another bottle of this in my future 😂

I don’t mind them, I tend to like the colors in the light spectrum from green into indigo, but if the color says green, then this is more of what I would expect to see rather than a teal, you know‽ It’s frustrating when they look greener in the cartridge than they are on the page, because you’re stuck once the seal is broken. Oh, this green reminds me of the green in those frustrating Uniball rollerball pens, which is a color I like but find the pens themselves annoying (and of course ended up being the pen work would buy in bulk).

 Well, the bottles and their little roll of blotting paper are cool.

Ah, yes, that makes sense.

Yes, that's annoying, though of course, it's more concentrated in the cartridge.  This is why we do ink reviews - inks are so unpredictable! :)

What!?  UNIBall's were frustrating to you?  Of course, I only ever got the "deluxe" version (once I tried one) and it became my go-to pen.  First the "Micro" until US paper got so bad that it felt awful scraping across rough paper, and then the next size up, whatever that's called - can't remember.  Still have a box of them.  In a drawer. :)

I'm a sucker for Lamy bottles...I wish other brands would get inspired!

:) Me too!  Akkerman and Lamy have very cool bottles that are also useful.  Dominant Industries bottles (if I recall correctly) look unique and interesting, even if there's nothing more functional about them than others.

PS: If anyone is still reading, would you like to chime in on whether Quin's father died of the mold plague?  Or on what their next adventure should be?  I have a short one in mind (I think it's short), but nothing's solid yet - I'm right at the end of this adventure and transitioning to the next one.

Feels like we should get some new armor or a new weapon, maybe a new magical potion with that, right? :lticaptd:

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
