Lamy Aion cap issues

I recently purchased a Lamy Aion, which really speaks to me aesthetically. The cap felt a little bit loose at first, and didn't really bother me, but it seems to have become a bit more wobbly and rattly with time.

 

I see reviews from 2017 mentioning this issue, and folks suggesting that Lamy may have fixed it since. I am trying to find out if this is just the way the pen is and I should accept that, or if Lamy has ever addressed this. Curious to know if I happen to have an old model Aion, and if there is a revised cap or potential fix.

 

In the meantime, I've placed a strip of paper in the cap which mitigates the problem somewhat, but it still feels loose and wobbly. It seems a real shame, because the aesthetic of the pen demands a certain precision, which this wobbly nonsense completely undermines (in my opinion).

I have always liked this pen and recently decided to buy it. I know about the cap problem, I have read many reviews and comments. In the end, what made me decide to order it was that many of its users say that the wobble does not affect the functionality.
It arrived at a relative's house and next week I will use it for the first time. I bought it from the Spanish Lamy website (which is actually in Heidelberg, they closed the Barcelona office). As it is the blue one, a modern version, it must have been manufactured very recently, so I will be able to report reliably if Lamy has revised this problem.

Recently purchased a used Aion  (Blue) myself, and have the same problem. Does it affect the pen’s functionality? No not really, but it does mean that for me the Aion will never be a favorite writer. However, it is all metal and since I don’t like it, I don’t care if I use it, so it is the pen that travels with me most. Everybody needs an “expendable,” right?

I have finally been able to test the Aion. The cap is still wobbling. It's a very small amount of slack, it's not something that bothers me. The pen feels very solid overall and the closure is very secure, I don't think that wobble is going to be an inconvenience. But this is a matter of taste, if someone finds that wobble unacceptable in a pen, nothing can be said. In my case, I am very satisfied with the Aion.

On the other hand, I was curious to try the z53 nib. I must say that it does seem more finely tuned than the Z50's. Now, the Z50 still seems very good to me, the differences with the Z53 seem subtle to me. It is also true that I only have one Z53: if the production is consistent, they are definitely worth it, as every now and then a faulty Z50 comes out, though usually easily adjustable.

If it's a pen bought new, I would seek to exchange it with Lamy; otherwise I would try a small amount of tape inside the cap, but I don't have this model .

They are slow, but will eventually get the job done...One can not expect fast for free......and it is still free by Lamy.

My Aion caps wobble if shook with sufficient force and rotates around but is snap secure so I think that is normal as there is no undue nib dry out. I forgot how long it took to dry out but Lamy Aion is no Platinum Preppy with slip and seal longevity.

After a few days of use, I conclude that the looseness of the cover is not a defect. I have even forgotten that this movement exists. I would be concerned if the wobble was the first symptom of a malfunction, but judging from the comments of other Aion users, it is not.
I'm not a fan of putting paper or tape on the inside of the cap. If you find the feature unbearable, better to sell or replace the pen. Otherwise, you're not going to enjoy its virtues.
I also have a Parker Frontier, a model that also has a wobble in the cap. In this case, there is a greater fragility that can lead to a poor closure with use.

By the way, this is one of those topics - a relatively frequent case - where the only person who is apparently disinterested is the one who posted it.

Seems to be a wide range of experiences suggesting fairly loose manufacturing tolerances. I might take up the offer from Lamy Canada to take a look at the pen and see what they can do. If I can get a version of this pen without the cap wobbling and clicking, that would be brilliant.

I just bought one of the dark green Aions, and while the cap can rotate more or less freely and rattles a little bit unless I push down on it firmly, I can in fact seal it completely if I bother to do so. But really, since I don't spend a lot of time using the cap as a fidget-spinner or shaking it like a maraca, none of this matters much. More importantly for me, it posts absolutely securely.
