Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Moon Dust

This is review #248 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Cleaning was very quick and easy - even the glitter seemed to come out more easily than usual.  All the images show pretty good color reproduction.  Audio may seem odd at times - the kitty was crying and my stomach was rumbling for breakfast, so I had to mute here and there...

(I'm editing right now, and clearly I'm a heartless ogre for having ignored those pathetic cries! They sound like cheeps and squeaks in the sped-up video.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 316µm. With 248 inks measured, the average line width is 296µm.)

Microscope image (100x with 400x inset. The 100x grey is darker than what my eyes see. Not that interesting, but I liked the abstract rose look of that hunk of glitter, so I magnified it more. :))

Another fabulous review @LizEF

Cats and Kittens have the proclivity for whining for a lot of things, the best way is to ignore them, until your task is done. But of course they like to make you feel like an ogre, I live with a Queen of yowlers and yodellers 😼

I'm not sure what to make of this ink. The microscopic images are purple, but the colour seems like a dull grey. The best part is that I'n not thcared :)

Thanks for making Tuesdays memorable 🙏

:sm_cat: Really hard to ignore sounds while I'm recording, since, ya know, I'm recording.  In this one, it was the first time he was awake while I recorded, and it was just so pathetic... :D  Yes, yes, I'm a sucker, but getting better at ignoring his cries.

It's definitely grey on the page.  The microscopic image color is surely just a consequence of the slide and image capture process.

Trust me it took me years to practice ignoring. And now she understand a booming No. It takes time and patience :D

Thanks as usual for the comprehensive review.

I'll admit that while I liked the sample I tried of this ink enough to spring for a full bottle a few years ago, I'd be scared to put it (or ANY shimmer ink) into a pen with an EF nib.... :o

@LizEF, thanks for another Terriffic Tuesday Review!  I like gray inks, but no more glitter for me, even if this one seems well-behaved.  I still enjoy watching them play out on the page.... and the gray, feathered sea, with magical multicolor cake and ice pops mostly hidden.

As for the thtory—-it almost feels like they're climbing Mount Doom!  Stay tuned.

(Time to feed teh kitteh?  😹)

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

:D  I rarely have problems with shimmer inks in EF nibs.  Don't be thcared!

:)  I respect your rejection of glitter!

  This is the consequence of getting what I wanted - a kitty bonded to me rather than another kitty - he just likes to be close to me (most of the time).  He'll even give up lying in the sun to come lie between me and the keyboard sometimes!

Hey, one of ours used to not be content with lying between us and keyboards -- she'd walk ACROSS the keyboard....

Thanks for showing us this really nice grey ink @LizEF. And while I typically abhor glitter in inks, I do like it in this Moon Dust ink - not disturbing at all, and it somehow enhances the grey tones. Well… my stance towards glitter seems to be like the human mind: not a terribly logical or consistent place 😉

Thanks for the review, I also do like this ink, but had never tried it in an EF nib thinking it would clot. Great to see it working and behaving for now this expands my choice of inks for my preferred (EF) writing.

Cats and keyboards... I always tell students to make at least three copies of any important document. They tend to think me crazy, until I point out: You never know when a cat may walk on the keyboard or someone use the duster on it.

The most common events are often the ones given less consideration and most easily ignored.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

  You're very welcome, @namrehsnoom!  (And I'd guess we're all that way - ink is as much an emotional choice as a logical one.)

You're very welcome, @txomsy!  Diamine's glitter inks seem to be the best behaving in Japanese EF nibs - the glitter still shows in the line, but it doesn't clog the pen.

  Yes, and I've already developed the habit of clicking out of the app whenever Klaw seems like he might approach the keyboard!  (A couple of times, this has revealed Windows features I didn't know existed, and still have no clue how to access - secret keyboard shortcuts only the felines know... :D )

Isn't that the truth!
