Not sure if this is a real M1005 Stresemann?

Am new here, but have loved fountain pens ever since I first had a Pelikano as a kid in a German school.  Sorry to start off on what might be a sad note, but here goes.

I just got what was supposed to be an M1005 Stresemann, but the barrel doesn’t look quite right.  On my other M800/M1000s, the piston mechanism is obviously metallic.  But this one is black.  And there’s a weird texture underneath the grey stripes.  Guy I got it from says he got the barrel as a spare part from Pelikan.  I want to like this, but is it a fake?

Thanks for any help.  🫣

Stripes do look legit as do the other parts, could it be related to Pelikan moving to non-translucent barrel material? IDK, I kind of like that... how does it balance compared to the metal piston mechanism ones?

I think that you don't have to worry.

I have 4 M80Xs and 2 M1000s. Only one M800 has those "microstripes".

The others do not have that. I have no stresemans though, and the M805 is the opaque version where you can't see. But this can happen.

About the piston mechanism. Others have wondered about this, but @dbs put his 1005 into an xray :D Sothe power of nerddom has proved that all is good with those blackend parts in the M1005 series

So what is the final verdict?

I am very pleased to announce the piston barrel of M1005 Stresemann is made of Copper.

See scientific proof: I scan two pens with CT, left (anatomic coordinate, is on your right hand) is Montblanc Flex nib, right is Pelikan M1005 Stresemann. Below shows the Frontal image. I measured the HU (Hounsfield Number) of piston barrel. The average is 13597. According to Wiki page, Copper HU is 14000.

So it is brass, but now coated with plastic (instead of PVD) to increase air tighten.

Great answers - I prefer the old clear barrel material (without the perpendicular inside stripes), but it’s good to know that my pen seems legit.  It does seem about the same in weight and feel to my other M1000.  😊

it is legit.

The piston in some SE (including the stresseman) is coated brass to have a color that is more appropriated for the pen.

The striations are also common in translucent barrels. It is something that happens during the fabrication process. Some pens have it more pronounced than others but most translucent barrels show this to some degree or another.

My M800 Stresseman was just like that (bought from an authorized dealer in Germany a month after release). I only noticed it after years of use.

Congrats and enjoy your beautiful pen for many years to come.
