Majohn V1- Something old, something new, something original, something weird

Ugly or An Acquired Taste?

  1. 1. Would this have been better imagined as a demonstrator safety pen?

    • No. When are we getting more nib variety

The new Majonh V1 Vacumatic feels more like something Long would dream up over at PenBBS. Is there a purpose unseen or is it just funky pen art with Majohn letting its "hair" down for the summer after an excruciating early year of "inspirational" new drops with no nib variation amongst the various offerings. ( We got cartridge covers, carriers, inks, faceted bodies, but no M or B nib units for the A1//A2 yet) Only time will tell with more models expected but yet to be released in the coming months.

This pen makes me feel like the C2 met the Wancai, had a night on the town, things happened and here we are with our Gen Z pen baby. It needs a brave soul to introduce it to the classic inks and tell it tales of Baystate Blue.

This is where cultural differences come into play and I will be keen to see what the Eastern reviewers are saying about the pen on the message boards, Bilibili, the flagship comment section, etc. It is a conversation starter, for better or worse. I look at it and wonder was there an opportunity for a demonstrator safety pen model of some kind with all that real estate and volume but alas, we get a tube cover, that clip that should come with a heavy fine and a misdemeanor public indecency charge,  and another vacumatic for now.

Pen summer in full swing, more to come.

This type of pen, with the cap as long as the barrel, is not new. There's an Indian maker who makes them, and better than Majohn, because his model isn't transparent, which turns the pen into a puzzle ("How do you uncap it, when it looks like there's no cap, only a body?) I can't remember the name of the pen. It was something like the Hide'n'Seek.

Great catch and info. Still no idea why but hopefully it brings someone some pen joy.

Found it. It's the Hide N Seek by Lotus Pens

The Hide N Seek one is nicer, I do also like it better than the Majohn. And the idea of the long cap is wonder full, sleek, humorous and funny. I didn't know of the Hide N Seek, but thank you for bringing it up into the radar.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

This style of cap that constitute a pen holder ( almost completely cover the pen ) is really literally more than a hundred years old , there were already such during the 1910…'s and 1920's

Had seen this style pop up every some years or so

I like it. Is there a place to buy it? It is similar to my Franklin Christoph 33 Abditus.

That is a great Idea. I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Also this pen calls to me. It is something new and fresh that needs to be in my collection, although I expect it to be back heavy and I dislike that I'm still gonna buy it. I found it for 30$.

Also, have you guys seen the new Jinhao 9019? It is a thick boy, like the x159. but what intrigued me more was that in one picture it shows a Jinhao 82 "mini" with an acrylic barrel. I am a big fan of the 82 having over 20, I can't wait for the mini version

  • 3 weeks later...

I got mine today, and (hate to admit it since most of my pens are pretty expensive) I love it.

Well made, and if I put this up against one of my Viscontis with a vac filler, I bet most people would not see a big difference in overall quality or writing (shame on me).

Do you have a Pelikan m800? How does it compare to it in terms of back-heaviness. Is the V1 more back-heavy with that metal knob?

No.

I have 200s, 400s and an M1000. I use all posted except the 1000.

I'm sensitive to back heavy pens but this is not an issue for me on this since it fits in the skin between thumb and forefinger.

  • 2 months later...

Finally, after almost 2 months, mine arrived. I did't even think it would ever arrive. I have to tell, I really like it, and mine wrote very good out of the box, wet with a hint of feedback, just as I like my pens. I'm thinking of getting another one or two, just because there's nothing like it out there.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
